I hope you find him soon. I can't bear to think of an animal being lost, and wandering, like that.

My own dog escaped from my garden tonight, because someone had tampered with my gate.

I have my garden fenced completely round for safety, and someone had, apparently deliberately, undone the gate I had fastened up. (i have sole use of my gated path, so there is no reason except for malice, why someone should have been on my garden, and fiddling with my gate at almost midnight.

I had opened the door, to let him out, onto the garden for his last wee, and before I had realised the gate was open, and could close the door, he was off from behind my legs.

I can't chase him, properly, because of my mobility problems.

Thank god, a passer-by stopped and assisted me to catch him. it took absolutely ages.

The little swine would not even be enticed by his usual "rustling packets" of crisps/ biscuits....

fortunately, this young woman managed to grab him by his collar, and get him back to me. I am so grateful to her, for her help. I can't express my thanks enough to her.

I had visions of my dog ending up under a car (it was pitch black out, and he is a black dog.... and the nutters that come up and down my road.. they drive like bats out of hell... I was absolutely terrified!)

Telephone the Police stations locally, sometimes strays are taken there as a first stop.

They will give you contact numbers of Kennels / RSPCA etc.

Good luck, I would be gutted if we lost our Dog.

oh no! good luck I really hope you find him unfortunately I don't live around that area but I will keep you in my thoughts.

It's an idea to phone the police as his collar may have come off etc. Our cat used to lose her collar all over (although I know cats and dogs do different things!)

I hope you find Luke, keep us updated.

a thought has just occurred to me, rainbow...

there is a kennels, near mosborough (not 100% sure, but I think they are called mossbrook, or mosborough kennels) off mosborough moor.

I believe that they are where "lost/ found" dogs are taken by the dog wardens and the police...

Why don't you try there?

It's quite near you, and it could be that your little Luke has been found, and taken there?

Good luck in your search.

make sure you push the police. I know when i found a dog wondering around C Peaks where i also live i phoned SY police on the general number and asked to be put through to Moss Way regarding a lost dog. The operator told me they dont deal with them.

I eventually drove to Moss Way with the dog and the kind receptionist took him straight off me and put him in a kennel they have round the bag. I just hoped the owner of the lost dog didn't phone this chap!

Good luck and i'll also keep an eye out when wlaking my pooch later.

I was coming through westfield along the road next to the Joseph Glover(road with the foot bridge)Dont know the name of the road, and saw a little white dog with brown markings on its face wandering along the pavement by itself.
This was about 15.30 but its only just registered with me.

Hope this helps.

i had one follow me home once and i took him in fed him and called the police, they said we do not collect so either

a)let him out for someone else to worry about!!!!!:loopy:
b)fetch him here yourself
c)call rspca
d) keep him!

i was a little shocked they said let him out first! i dropped him off at police station a little wary they would just let him go

Hope you find him :(

We had a Jack Russell who we nicknamed Houdini, for obvious reasons. He always came back (even if all attempts to trap him were resisted!) but it was always worrying at the time.

Are you new to the neighbourhood, or does he know 'his patch'?

We have lived here for 30 years and Luke has been with us about 4 years, so he knows the area. I know that there is a chance he will find his way home but that thought somehow just doesn't help. He is such a super little dog and we love him so much its heartbreaking.

I really sorry to hear you haven't found him yet and hope you have better luck soon.

One of mine escaped but luckly it was only for 5 minutes and was on our road. It was my fault for not checking the garden gate.

Just a thought, but why not try putting a post on dogpages.co.uk under the dog chatter area. There are a few people in the sheffield area registered on there and they could help to keep an eye out for him.

rainbow2411
15-05-2005, 07:26
Thanks for that I have registered with them but can't post on their forum until the registration has been confirmed. We are planning to take the wanted poster to Royal Mail delivery offices around this area and beyond, in the hope that Postmen will help us. Luke could have roamed out of our area by now, he's been gone for 2 nights, so please if you would you check the doglost site for Lukes picture and keep a look out for him when your out and about today we would be so grateful, thank you.

Sorry to hear about your dog. There's some kind of event on at Rother Valley Park today - a 'duck race' or something? Might be an idea to hand out flyers/leaf;ets to people there to keep an eye out?? Just a thought. Hope you get poor doggy back soon.

We have just arrived home from handing out flyers at Rother Valley which was suggested by the people on the forum who have been so helpful and supportive. I am upset that the thread has been moved from to "events and notices", I am sure that not as many people read that particular forum and therefore fewer people will be able to help. I cannot understand why this has happened and can only say I was very upset whilst handing the flyers out but I am so hurt that someone felt it necessary to make this awful time even worse

Just back from the event at Rother Valley. All leaflets given out to dog walkers in the area - nearly all said they walked round the Hackenthorpe/Crystal Peaks/Rother Valley area and would keep an eye out for Luke. I only wish I'd taken more leaflets as I could have got rid of many many more.

Just feel glad to have been able to have done something and let's hope that Luke is found soon and returned home.

And if we keep adding to this thread then it keeps going to the top and getting noticed by lots more people!

Let me know if you have any luck from the woman at Hackenthorpe whose number I gave you tho..Fingers crossed.

Nothing yet, we have been to the police and left some posters, but they tell me that I should also contact the Derbyshire Police so I am just about to do that, they have given me several numbers to contact, a kennel in Barnsley that South Yorkshire Police use, the dog warden and as a last resort the cleansing dept. We have arrange for posters to be sent to every Royal Mail Delivery office in Sheffield in the hope that the postmen may keep a lookout for Luke and I have posted on another 2 web sites which were given here on the forum. We have just arrived home having driven around everywhere we can think of that he could have gone but no luck. We've had no phone calls as yet.
I would like to thank everyone on the forum for all the help and support, I feel as if I have extended my family this weekend, it's the only good thing that has happened since Luke went.

Shame about the woman at Hackenthorpe - I was so sure we had something there, but keep in mind that every new person you/anyone speaks to about Luke is another person looking out for him.

I have a couple of close friends in the police - both dog lovers/owners so will have a word with them also so that they can keep an eye/ear open for any new dogs brought into the kennels. Will let you know if I hear anything at all that might be remotely connected. Got your number now so even if you arent on Forum I can get hold of you.

Keep chins up.

You might want to try calling the Sheffield City Council to see if they have picked him up from side of road. Our cat went missing and called them and found she had been knocked over. Fingers crossed they won't have your dog on records.

I have 2 jack russells and it would absolutly kill me if anything happened to them. My youngest one about 9 months does look very similar markings to yours, with the markings. They are so lovely.

My fingers are crossed for you!
Good luck!

Thought I might have spotted yours this evening until I read this post. It appears there's another predominantly white with sandy markings JR on the loose out there on Moss Way.

Had just got Millie across the road when we came head to head with the little blighter... fitted Luke's description perfectly with a collar and what looked like a metallic pink name tag. He/she caught sight of Millie (or it could've been me!) and took off, Jack Russle style (ie quick) towards the Joseph Glover end of Moss Way. Never mind 60 seconds...he/she was gone in 10.

I took Millie straight home (platting her legs bless her), and went looking with a spare lead. No joy.

Glad you got yours back tho.

Poor Millie I hope she'll get another chance at her walk, thank you for caring. Luke is fine, very tired still sleeping in between eating and drinking, we've decided not to take him to the vet this evening, he seem in good condition and the vet is not his favourite person so we think he's has enough trauma for 1 day and will have him checked over tomorrow.

It was the contact details on his collar that brought Luke back to us. Chipping would have helped if his collar had been lost and the Police, kennels or a vet were involved or if he had been stolen, it would prove who was his rightful owner.
Luke is very very tired this morning hasn't even got the energy to go for a tiddle, we've had to carry him onto the grass

Didn't realise the tag had to have owner's name and address.

We have our dog tagged under the SCC Dog Registration Scheme and the tag they supply doesn't have our name and address, - just their telephone number and the Reg. number.

Don't think there is anything about the requirement in the leaflet they supply.

Hi everyone-I live just outside of Sheffield and when my dog went missing 3 years ago I started up doglost.co.uk to help other owners. It is all F.O.C but members of this forum could help us-by registering your e mail and postcode on our site we will automatically send you a missing poster and you can keep your eyes open!
We can also warn you if their are dog thieves in the area. The website is now one of the fastest growing in the UK-Just shows we are all mad about our dogs!
So please help us get these dogs back! Alarmingly 8 out of 10 dogs we recover have been stolen!
So beware and join us now.
