Hi Ridish
We are also at the forge as well.
www.theforge-ma.co.uk
The instructor for the BJJ took part as well. Jon Goldson can actually box and is not just a grappler. I was quite impressed at how comfortable he seemed with the boxing side of the class. His punches flowed well, his guard was up and he moved fluidly. You would be mistaken for thinking he was a boxer!
The other instructor Noel came to Marks Thursday class one day. He was similarly fluent with boxing techniques.
I am honoured to have such respected gentlemen such as the above in my classes.
Many thanks to Barrgergus for putting this thread up and letting everybody know.
Good luck with the classes Farhad, looks a nice centre going on down there.

Hi Tomy
The actual subject content of the lessons will vary from lesson to lesson.
The class being a new class, will be geared towards the participants.
Example , this lesson just gone we had.
1 Absolute beginner + Jon Goldson (BJJ instructor) Amy (done a bit of kickboxing before and also does BJJ) + 2 lads and a girl who had done kickboxing before.
All enjoyed the class and learned /trained at an appropriate pace.
Here is what was taught:
* Warm Up :
Running round the room and doing light exercises
Light stretch , stretching all body parts.
* The body of the lesson was based around doing Boxing drills on the focus pads (as a good boxing base is essential for any form of boxing , thai/kick/normal)
1st set:
Jab -cross , jab cross-jab - evasion footwork drill , parry- jab cross
2nd Set:
Emphasis on the HOOK
Hooking off the jab, Liver hook (A-la ricky hatton!!!) , Hook with power.
3rd Set
Emphasis on the Uppercut
Lead uppercut, Rear Uppercut, use of uppercut in combos (what the boxers call 4-3-2 )
Kicking :
Emphasis that the roundhouse kick (DTAE ) is to be delivered with power and that the Dtae is scored on effect. Emphasis on hitting the correct part of the pad and following through using the shin.
Dtae, Switch Dtae, one step Dtae , Block-punch-Dtae.
After that we had a stretch off and a cooling off period.
Hope this answers your question Tomy.
BarraGergus 12-10-2008, 21:34 how are the classes doing
chefkicker 13-10-2008, 11:19 how are the classes doing
Hi Greg
The classes are doing ok, well it is still early days yet and one couple who used to come to my city centre venue now have said that they liked the feel of the forge with its matted floor and other luxuries ;)
Merry_Legs 13-10-2008, 11:31 Aye, we did! :)
chefkicker 13-10-2008, 11:39 Aye, we did! :)
Would you say that the earlier start was better?
I.e. 6pm on a Tuesday night as opposed to a 730pm start?
What do you think?
Would that have a major pivotal role in you keeping coming to this one?
Merry_Legs 13-10-2008, 11:55 Earlier starts are better for me cos I have to be up early for work (8am starts) though I appreciate that people most people work later or have longer to travel than I do :)
tomyamgoong 14-10-2008, 08:59 Not necessarily my thing kickboxing but from what i seen and heard it not that diff from muay thai.Im wanting to popalong and have a try , keep an open mind and all that. You may all see me at the class. What do u look like urban pebblers?

chefkicker 14-10-2008, 11:18 Whats this? Internet dating? See you tonight Urban Pebbles.
Tomy , you are more than welcome to try out a kickboxing class. Youll find it not that different to what youre used to.

My students really like your gym. Also its fun to watch Jon Goldson being bullied by Amy ;)
BarraGergus 18-10-2008, 14:31 seeing john get beat up is a rare thing, i'm normally feeling too lite-headed from him choking me to notice.
send me details of that event you want photos for and i'll sort you out
