Yeah me.
Chancet wood respite home. My lad used to spend the occasional night and some weekends there, he used to love it and its fun for them to spend time away from home in a safe environment with their friends.
Its good stuff and I hope that Chancet is still open, the staff were brilliant.

Yes, it's still open. I live near to it.
There's a place up Woodhouse as well, on Spa Lane, not sure if they have kids though, I went in there for a week a couple of years back, and hated it, I was supposed to be in for a week of "respite", pfft... Chuff me, they promised alsorts, trips out etc, did it happen? Nope, we were just left to vegitate in front of the telly all day, no attention from the staff at all, after 2 days I decided sod this I'd be better off at home, and left the building.
I do respite but not for sheffield council, I have children still coming from Wakefield where I used to live. Respite can either be done in a centre like Chancetwood , Mossbrook and other places , sheffield has home based carers, who offer to do a one to one service. I prefer the home based carers as the child gets alot of one to one which helps build trust, confidence and self esteem. Respite can be arranged by his social worker, I am not sure that there dosn't have to be a core report done and some assesments but respite is great for them , the children i have still love coming to us and some have come for over 10 years to us, I am still in touch with some that are now to old for respite too .

thanks for all your help seems like i might look into it a little more
The info i gave you may be incorrect each local authority has different ways of allocating respite care, I do it for wakefield MDCC. not sheffield or rotherham. Some councils also give you a like helper/volunteer who can take your son off out and do something that he likes doing, these people come enhanced CRB checked and trained in the needs of your child.

sheffield do like familys so foster carers who will take them for a day or so, ive just refused this ( have been refusing it since she was 10 months ) i know rygate has a respite centre which the physio's looking at sending my wee girl to but i dont know the criteria
Why don't you speak to the SIGN (Sheffield Information Giving Network) who have loads of information that may be able to help. They are based at Ryegate Centre but can be contacted on the telephone on 266 9476.
