I'd recommend going direct, only because so many of those third party retailers have turned out to mess things up/have no after sales support/etc.

As I work for Orange, my opinion is bound to be biased ;)

But honestly, it depends what you want...if you're not fussed about the phone you want, then you get much more leeway with pricing.

Orange/O2 would be the only two networks I'd bother with, but I've heard O2 have real problems with billing etc. atm.

Vodafone tend to be pretty expensive,

T-Mobile have lost ~500,000 customers (net) in the last 9 months, so I'd be thinking carefully about joining whilst so many people are jumping ship.

What's your usage? Minutes, texts, etc.

If you've got an unlocked phone you can get a SIM only deal...Orange are doing 600 free mins / unlimited free texts, 30 day contract only, £20/month, which is brilliant. I think O2 are matching this but only as a special offer.

Give us some more info and I'll try to give you some more advice.

Just out of curiosity and completely off topic, do you have churn figures for Orange for the same period? I left Orange for Tmob many years ago and have never looked back!

No, I have no affiliation with TMob, I am just a satisfied customer and am surprised at this statement given the success of their Flext range.

Orange spoil every phone they release like Vodafone putting there own stupid software on there mobiles stopping you getting the best out of any mobile you get off them, O2 is the best as they never mess about with there mobiles at all,but now they done same as T-Mobile offering 18month instead of 12 month contracts, some people on T-mobile never get full signal strength on there mobiles

pc-med, churn figures are different, they're about people quitting your network to join it again...
As for Q1-Q3 there were big jumps for Orange, net gains, I couldn't tell you numbers though without a bit of digging.

Andy, in almost all cases you can turn off the Orange customised homescreen anyway, and to say that O2 don't modify their phones you only need to look at their XDA range (equiv. to TMob MDA, HTC, Orange SPV, etc.) they always play around with their top end phones, all of the networks do.

The issue, as I see it, with T-Mobile is that all their tarriffs are confusing, their phones tend to be overly expensive (i.e no payg phone for <£40), and their support/repairs services are pretty dodgy, also they're not a viable option for most businesses, who at the moment will generally opt for Orange or O2.

I'd say Orange or o2 aswel, I've been on all of the big networks apart from 3 and the best experiences have been from both Orange and o2.

From my use I've found that o2 has better network coverage than Orange, sometimes when I go to Nottingham/Derby my Orange phone has no netowrk whilst my o2 one has full signal.

The dolphin tariff from Orange is pretty good if you text alot, I havent really used any of their other tariffs though. I have got a mega deal with o2, whereas when I asked to leave them at the end of my last contract, they told me that if I kept my phone, they would put me on an 18 month contract that is usually £20 per month, but give it to me for half price (£10 per month) and also credit my account with £180 which effectively makes the contract completely free unless I go over the free usage (which I never do as I tend to use my Orange phone more).

As said earlier, Orange supplies phones that have their own software/themes/etc on and they are pretty poor and you are much better off changing to the normal factory settings, whereas every o2 phone I've had has come unlocked and free from any rubbish preinstalled on it.

Its worth a trip down fargate and just going in each of the phone shops to see what offers that have on.
