Woo hoo, my first thread and utterly self-centered, but there you go. Come September I will be entering my thirties and would like to mark it by going away for a few days with the lad so we can bicker in new surroundings.
Now September is a tad on the chilly side sometimes but show me an aeroplane and I break into uncontrollable sobbing and once I land I feel an urge start kissing the ground a la Pope.
So preferably Britain - any suggestions for a romantic getaway late in the year - the odder the better!

I have never been, so can't really say if it is any good.
It's a themed lodge, the rooms look pretty good and quite fancy the Flintstones Suite! http://www.aphroditeslodge.co.uk/bedrooms.htm

Ooooh - perhaps I could be Betty Rubble for the weekend (because Wilma was always a nag) and bloke could be Barney. Or he could be Fred Flintstone and I could be Betty Rubble having an illicit affair!
Why don't you go to France... On a boat! ... or through the Tunnel! Incidently, I once kissed a plane before boarding it (you know.. the bit that sticks out of the rubber bit around the 'door'). A romantic 'getaways' website must exist!

I know a gorgeous little apartment in Spain for not to much a week and its darned hot out there all year round. It belongs to my boyfriend's brother and he only lets it through people he knows. Its 2 bed, shower room and combined lounge/dining room/kitchen. There's also a pool. It's a very small quiet complex and is mostly habited by Brits who live there but they are a friendly bunch and not noisy and lairy.
Flights to Alicante can be picked up for about £50 on Easyjet et al and I can also sort out an taxi (English driver) from the airport.
The flat is at Algorfa, which is about 20 mins from Torrieveja on the Costa Blanca. I go to Spain roughly once a month and it is always warm. Went last week and it was about 75-80 degrees (and getting warmer!)

Leddi - dunno why but I'd somehow got it into my head that the sea from September onwards is all 80 ft waves and howling gales like that film with George Clooney in a fishing boat, whereas in summer its like a millpond. But I'm probably wrong and if so France could be the place.

How about Burgh Island ( http://www.burghisland.com/ ) or The Witchery in Edinburgh ( http://www.thewitchery.com/witch.html )?

Now we're getting somewhere!!! Thankyou evildrneil. The Witchery looks devilishly opulant and as for Burgh Island - its like something out of Poirot - I love that era. Now which to choose.....

The channel is a fairly sheltered stretch of sea so it rarely gets rough, but as was mentioned you could always take the tunnel if you really don't fancy it. You can get the Eurostar from Waterloo to Paris.
