View Full Version : Sasperalla-does anyone know where I can buy?
hi does anyone remember Sasperalla and most important does anyone know where i can buy it from i know wicker herbalists sell the dilute one but its the fizzy one i want i can not find it anywhere i have looked on net with no luck.
anyone can help ??
rubydazzler 14-05-2005, 20:26 don't know whether this helps. I c'n'pd this from a message board when i googled for "sarspirella" Not sounding too good though is it "22 bottles of yuk" but it sounds like you can still buy the real thing if ur a Geordie :)
As a Geordie exile living in Sco, I had severe withdrawl
syptoms of Sarspirella and Dandelion and Burdock
I made a big mistake and purchased a crate of each
of Morrisons own brand (2x12x2Ltr bottles)
22 bottles of yuck going free here
There was an SF thread about Sarspirella Temperance Bars in Sheffield about the time when I joined.
Best of luck in your quest :D
hi thanks anyway i will find some it might not be the same anyway as i remember but if anyone does know where the fizzy stuff is from it would be great

I have no idea where you can bye it in Sheffield, but being from Bolton, if you are ever up there, go to the Market Hall and there is a shop that has always sold it.
I always go and buy some, I will tell you next time I go and visit home and bring you some back.
It`s really good.
bolton hey the best thing was i was over that was a few weeks back. if you could get me there details they migyt send me some mail order
thanks
LOL, I was just about to suggest Bolton Market.
They do Vimto and Ribena for those of us who are less hardcore, as well!
Wicker herbal stores in the sheffield market sell sasperalla
brian.taylor 08-08-2006, 13:07 I have only just registered with SheffieldForum but have noticed your message.By chance, I was in Asda (Colindale/Edgeware) last Friday and saw they had bottle of Sasperalla on sale. First time I had seen any south of Watford. When I lived in Manchester I would regularly visit Waterfoot and Rossendale to get a bottle or two, which I loved. If you have an ASDA near Sheffield give them a try. Up the Blades!
Didnt they sell that in the old wild western films, may you should try the OK corale
sarsparella is kinda like rootbeer, in the same family
UncleFunkle 08-08-2006, 15:44 I bought a bottle in Beanies, Crookes a while back... not sure if they still sell it though.

They did last time I was in there- only a couple of weeks ago.
Michael A 12-08-2006, 19:08 As an owd codger I remember the Temperance Bars that were dotted about the city, and drank in a few on hot days. The signs read "SARSAPARILLA". Maybe this spelling will help in your search.
GrinderBloke 12-08-2006, 19:22 Temperance in Sheffield! With all those steel workers thirsts to quench! I seem to recall one saspirilla bar still in operation, perhaps in Lancashire, although a search of the web failed to find it.
And I found this:

In the Afro Caribbean market stall in sheaf market
okka north 13-08-2006, 10:52 OMG. Sars is vile. And it is nothing like vinto. I have never seen it in Sheffield but have you tried googling the word? I thought I saw it on an australian online shop as it's popular in oz, well it's sold there popular might be pushing the truth a bit.
gularscute 13-08-2006, 11:26 They used to sell glasses of it at at one of the cafes in the market but that was many a year ago, not sure if they still do.
Classic Rock 13-08-2006, 12:50 On the subject of rootbeer, the only place I've found selling it in Sheffield is Asda, Handsworth.....unless you know different?
brian.taylor 14-08-2006, 06:40 I purchased a bottle in ASDA Colindale/Edware last Friday. It's made up as a cordial, i.e. add water. I have found it palatable. Obviously, not the real thing that as used to get up in Waterfoot/Rossendale, Lancs, but a reasonable compromise.
brian.taylor 12-09-2006, 07:43 They sell it at Selfridges, Oxford Street, London either as a cordial or ready to drink. This means that they may also have it at Selfridges in Manchester.

Hmm, did anyone else spot this interesting bit of information in the link....
"Talk about a stiff drink too - according to the staff, sarsaparilla has the properties of Viagra."
Would md1pts, the OP who is desperately searching for a supplier of this drink, care to comment? :suspect:
