I know that this post isn't strictly about Sheffield, but you people are all so friendly and seem to know so much that I thought you wouldn't mind me asking.....

I've heard some stuff about problems with a leak of chlorine from the chemical works in Staveley that happened a couple of years ago. Does anybody have any more info about this?

Also, is this the factory that you can see if you drive through Stavely heading towards the M1 on the left hand side? (if not, what is that monstrousity?!)

Finally, is the factory still up and running and if so does anybody know anything about it's future?

Thank you in advance!!! xx

I am quite familiar with his works as I used to work near, and I had some friends who live in staveley, and I used to stay with them regularly.
The works is accessed from works road. And most of the houses nearby have emergency cards about what to do if there is a chemical leak. And to read it it sounds horrific, pretty much like what you would expect to do after a neuclear bomb had gone off.
I think it is owned by Rhone Polonc.

Do you mean the new Ben Bailey Homes?

If so, the street may as well be called Chinobyl Way!

Yes there was a chlorene leak a couple of years ago. Aparently they are shutting the site down, but i have heard that will take aout 5-10 years to fully close and clean the site.

I personally dont trust it, im there every sunday doing the Canal, but i always worry about the plant exploding or summat!?
