Hi Everyone,

Can any of you tell me anything about Firth Lindsay Solicitors? They have been recommended to me for a Probate case, but are a little expensive. Any info, good or bad, will be appreciated.

I used them about 4 years ago with a house purchase, they were slow and needed a lot of pushing but I chose them because they were cheap compared to the rest, if the cheapness has gone, i cant see what they would have left going for them- IMHO.

I used them for my first house purchase about 17 years ago - one of the partners used to work for Attey, Bowers & Jones which is who we got recommended to in the first place.

My impression was that they were set up mainly to do conveyancing. Times may have changed and with the slowdown in the housing market they may be branching out in search of work.

IMHO if you're employing any professional to do work for you - whether solicitor, accountant, surveyor, architect etc - keep in regular contact to make sure they're on top of the job.

I used to work there. Very slow on conveyancing. Files pile up waiting for work to be done on them. Staff turnover very high. Go with someone else if I were you. Matrimonial and criminal departments excellent though.

I chose Firth Lindsay to sell our property due to the competitive price and brilliant location of their office. However, I am appaled by their service. I felt they never had time for me. As a first time seller, I had many questions and queries but none were answered. For every question, the answer was "anything could happen", or "50/50", "we'll have to see".
I thought I had paid an expert to do the job and as I can appreciate they do not know what will happen, I would have expected them to give me good advice and indicate what the next steps would be. I was in complete darkness and the sale took 6 months - due to our solicitor not the buyers'!

He has a bad attitude problem and is just not helpful at all. I wouldn't recommend them them to even my enemies.

Don't use firth lindsey I have just bought a house through them and have had to chase them all the way, Mr Firth was very old fashioned and blatenly rude and patronising to me on numerous occassions. I have considered reporting him! Be warned, I have previously used Norrie, Waite and Slater who were slightly more but very professional, good luck.

Another cheap and cheerful company, Mrs Norrie was the only professional there and she is long gone. They have a lot of clients like Irwin Mitchell as they do a lot of legal aid stuff.

If you are just applying for probate regarding a will, you do not need a solicitor. You can do it yourself. I did.

I'm glad I am not the only one that found him rude and patronising. He's so rubbish! I was actually so deflated, upset and annoyed by him that I have posted comments on loads of websites.

As a first time seller, I had many questions and queries but none were answered. For every question, the answer was "anything could happen", or "50/50", "we'll have to see".To be fair, the answers you say you were given don't really seem to be relevant to standard conveyancing practice

They seem more like the kind of answers given in reply to "what if" litigation scenarios, to clients who ask and always expect black-and-white answers (no black-and-white answer can ever be given in legal matters, it's the nature of the beast).

Moreover, there is now legal precedent for clients to sue their legal advisor, if the said advisor is daft enought to have given odds of success at Court of better than 50/50, yet lose the case at Court. So even if a client had a 100% cast-iron case, his legal advisor would never give him any better odds than 50/50.
