barmyowls 04-10-2008, 13:30 Lets hope both sheffield teams are in the top six at the end of the season
It would be great for sheffield football
Earwiggo 04-10-2008, 15:24 Struggle to be int top 16 unless they learn to defend
Plain Talker 04-10-2008, 16:14 with the table as it stands, the blades are fourth, and the owls are 9th...
NERVY-OWL 04-10-2008, 16:55 i cant see it, depends if we can strengthen or players can stay fit
Thingything 05-10-2008, 22:37 but not running through you all the way to plymouth :)

I can update you further, actually:-
:D
the owls went down to tenth, because of the results from a late kick off putting them down another place.
Michael_W 07-10-2008, 15:18 No one saw Wednesday as top six material this season for obvious reasons, where as there is expectancy at the Lane, personally I hope United finish 3rd, 3points short of automatic promotion with Wednesday having taken points off you and then you lose in the play offs....happy days LOL !

So you hope to achieve nothing this season apart from beating us?

erm leave my mate partridge out of this please.
Thingything 08-10-2008, 15:24 So you hope to achieve nothing this season apart from beating us?
YES,just for the bragging rights
Any realistic Owl knows that we aren't going to get promoted and that survival is a success and to take points of the the other team in Sheffield AGAIN would be enough
Thingything 08-10-2008, 15:42 Is that what car park attendants get at the Arena these days?
No,thats what they call a sparky who gets paid a hell of a lot more than you probably do just to stand around watchin a crappy load of young uns playing so called music just in case something goes wrong

for the time being... :P
one place and one point in it.
NERVY-OWL 19-10-2008, 17:56 well we're still the best team in sheffield;)
rooby_roo 19-10-2008, 18:08 Always have been, always will be!
Down with the red and white dirty ******* scum!! brrrrr where did that come from?
Billy Casper 19-10-2008, 21:26 To be honest...no, i don't think we'll stay in top 6! nowhere near enough strength in depth, and no money to buy! :(
CorkerSWFC 19-10-2008, 22:14 Well at least were above the Blades and have beaten them
Well at least were above the Blades and have beaten them
So Hull are better than Arsenal then as well... :)
After 10 games (with both having even number of home and away games), United were 4th, Wednesday in the bottom half. Let's look again after 20 games...
YES,just for the bragging rights
Any realistic Owl knows that we aren't going to get promoted and that survival is a success and to take points of the the other team in Sheffield AGAIN would be enough
come back when you do the double, when you've got some proper bragging rights :D It's not difficult...
Thingything 20-10-2008, 00:20 come back when you do the double, when you've got some proper bragging rights :D It's not difficult...
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I know you are hurting right now and it might take a while for you to get over it but to be honest im just happy we kicked your arse at our place AGAIN
If we beat you at your place it's a bonus
We beat you AGAIN,and are above you in the league
HAPPY DAYS:banana::banana::banana:
Oh and weve beaten you 2 in 3,i think that constitutes as bragging rights!!!
NEKRO138 20-10-2008, 08:32 No I don't expect it but there's always a surprise team that does well. Why not us this season? Once we're safe, which will hopefully be a lot sooner this season than last, the lads will be playing without fear and who knows what could happen?
robablade 20-10-2008, 11:09 def No
but its funny how your on -5 and were on +7
and you have let the second most goals in the champ and we have conceded the second least
NERVY-OWL 20-10-2008, 11:13 yea, its funny how we're still above you with a goal difference like that;)
robablade 20-10-2008, 11:20 wont be above us for long though
Loopgarou 20-10-2008, 12:03 I can't see us making the top 6 this year. The squad is not strong enough in depth. I reckon a top half this season would be ok and then if the club ever gets the finance then the top 6 should be possible for next season. We need another four quality players at least.
I can see the Blades doing it though. Not a particually nice thought!

Good job that points are worth more than goal difference then pal

did you mean the top 16 ?.
After tonight's performance, we'll be lucky.
After tonight's performance, we'll be lucky.
What top 6 or top 16? :(
Top 16 pal, we have no idea how to break teams down. Most of the team looked like they didn't want the ball playing to them.
We started off brightly against Plymouth. But once they scored and figured out how we played we had no chance.

Yes, I listened to the commentry and after they scored it just went downhill, even though Plymouth weren't much of a threat. Even JP left early!
Back to the norm for us Owls then eh.
CorkerSWFC 28-10-2008, 22:25 Glad i didnt waste my time and listen, even im losing interest now all this takeover crap and god knows what, its about time we got some truth.
We had a good start to build on and have messed up we will be run of the mill now.
Earwiggo 29-10-2008, 00:17 Nothing's changed from the first day of the season. If we can name our best 16 and start with our best 11 on a regular basis, we'll finish mid-table.
Our first 11 (except Simek) have probably only started one game this season, the mauling of Burnley. Since then, BL and the incoming squad players have done their best. We just haven't got the squad to cope. :(
We knew this 5 years ago, and 4 years ago, and 3 years ago, and this season is no different.
Without investment, we're just treading water ... but doing it quite well! :)
CorkerSWFC 29-10-2008, 06:52 I wouldnt say losing at home to Plymouth with a goal from someone who we released is doing quite well, were shocking really.
F. Sidebottom 29-10-2008, 08:29 I think we ought to be asking if we'll stay out of the bottom 6 :hihi:
Defended ok last night considering the changes in defence.
But the wingers were awful.
And Clarke!!!
alex3659 29-10-2008, 08:38 we have no idea how to break teams down. .
exactly my thoughts on the blades .
Earwiggo 29-10-2008, 09:28 I wouldnt say losing at home to Plymouth with a goal from someone who we released is doing quite well, were shocking really.
We need our first team out, and a settled team before we can get any sort of positive consistency going. Keep the faith.

You've got it bad mate :hihi:
SteveBlade 29-10-2008, 10:37 exactly my thoughts on the blades .
Yeah it can be quite frustrating.. But we dont really concede that many so we get away with it more often than not, we create enough chances to put games to bed but the finishing is poor.
And Clarke!!!
Our only striker on the pitch that played well last night.
Get off his back. He deserves criticism most of the time but last night he played well.
It was a great tackle from a Plymouth defender to prevent him going clean through. I was gutted for him.
Unregistered 29-10-2008, 16:00 Do you think they will stay in the top 6??
Not a chance - forget it.
F. Sidebottom 29-10-2008, 16:04 Our only striker on the pitch that played well last night.

Nobody wants him to score more than me, but as far as I'm concerned he didn't cut it last night.
His hold up play and first touch were very poor.
He won a lot of headers when the ball was played forward, but Andy Booth used to, and that got us nowhere. It's not just about getting your head on the ball - you've got to direct it and retain possesion.
People criticise Burton for not scoring, but arguably our best chance last night fell to Clarke on the back of the slickest move of the night - by Burton, and he'd only been on a couple of minutes. Clarke tried to play that role last night, but he just doesn't have the skill or control.
I would have much sooner seen Burton partner Jeffers as he can make the runs once Burton has control of the ball.
And as for the tackle preventing him scoring - I agree it was a great tackle, but running into the box with only the keeper to beat and the defender behind you, you've either got to get the shot off, or put yourself between the defender and the ball, and either keep the defender off the ball or force the penalty.
And the other thing I don't like about Clarke - he plays with big tomatoes on his feet!
NERVY-OWL 29-10-2008, 16:06 yes, cant believe some fans are slating him, jeffers played far worse and i've been saying he should start. clarke is one of only a couple of players that can be pleased with his performance
F. Sidebottom 29-10-2008, 16:09 Worse miss of the night, by far, was Johnsons at the end.
Overall, it is close between him and Esajas as to who had the worse game last night.
NERVY-OWL 29-10-2008, 16:11 i dont rate burton or clarke, i dont really care which of the 2 he plays but i think clarke did enough to get a start next match, he was very unlucky he didnt score, i dont think there is much more he could of done when he was almost clean through. maybe it should be clarke/burton upfront next match? yes jj gets miss of the night for me
F. Sidebottom 29-10-2008, 16:15 Each of our strikers brings something different:
Burton has the ability to receive the ball, control it well and distribute it, which advances our play up the field - can't score though!
Tudgay has good vision and battle.
Sodje has pace and power
Jeffers has skill
Clarke has giant edams for boots.
NERVY-OWL 29-10-2008, 16:22 yes they do, problem is sodje and jeffers need to get match fitness, so till they're match fit we wont see too much of those 2
