My cat has just started to smell & I'm going to take him to the vets but thought I would ask on here if anyone knows why. He also has bald patches at the bottom on his back & the skin is dry. I have been applying tea tree skin cream I got from Jollyes but he doesn't like it & it doesn't seem to be doing much good. He has a flea collar on too so don't think it's to do with fleas. Any suggestions would be appreciated until I can get him to the vets :help:

You'd be better off taking him to vet for proper flea treatment and check for mange mites...other thing is, has he been done? Has he started with the Tom smell? or does he just smell of old carpet's? If it's the later he may have a problem with mites. May be just allergic to flea's, as pet shop bought stuff does'nt always work.

hi im a cat and dog groomer.is it the coats that smells or the mouth area, the the bald patch may be caused by over grooming(licking)that particular area. The dry area and smell maybe because of bad diet, flaky skin can also be if the cat is overweight.

Yes he's been done. The smell is like he's not cleaned himself properly after he's been to the toilet but he looks clean in that area.

Oh, Thanks God it's nowt more serious, my dog gets this if we don't frontline, loses fur at base of tail and begins to smell of old carpets lol:hihi:

Poor Monty- flea allergy can make their skin so itchy and sore.

Let's hope he's over it and back to his normal self soon.

Oh glad to hear he's ok and it's only a FA. It's very easy to treat if you use frontline. Personally, I don't think pet shops should sell the Bob Martin rubbish and similar that calls itself flea treatment. I won't sell any flea treatment until I get a qualification to sell frontline and stronghold etc.

Glad he's happier now and hopefully no more flare ups :)
