hi my freind has just been and she has 2 collie dogs,she says that after a week or 2 they begin to smell and was wondering how often you could bath them ?

I would only bath them a few times a year or you will destroy the natural oils in the coat. I noticed Woodseats super pet sell a spray to make them smell better !
I have a sheltie who loves getting wet and rolling in goodness knows what!!

hi,its true you shouldn't bath dogs all the time it does strip off the natural oils in the coat however who wants their dog to be smelly.It also can make a big difference depending on what food the dog is given.Go for quality never supermarkets home brands and especially not (BAKERS)in a word it's crap.im a cat and dog groomer see it a lot.....food quality not quantity.

Fox poo is very common in Graves park, Chancet wood , Lady spring wood by beauchief Abbey, believe me I have super poo finder dog here!!

Tomatoe ketchup is supposed to be great for getting rid of fox poo smell on a dogs coat, rub it in and then shampoo it all off, I believe that it can dye white coats pink though :hihi:

To the OP.

I would try not to bath them too much. You would be better off with the dry shampoo that you rub into their coat and comb out. Leaves them smelling lurvely!

Like someone else said, check what they're eating, make sure it's not their anal glands that are making them smell (some dogs need them emptying regularly) and little things like washing their bedding, their collars etc should help. What good is it bathing your dog if it's sleeping on a dirty bed?

I'd try those things before bathing the dogs too much.

Dally are notorious for grooming themselves constantly but it's amazing - they're white dogs and they only ever have a bath maybe twice a year (and Takara swims in stinky, fishy water regularly!
Takara sometimes has a bath before a show but we've been known to go to shows not having bathed her before hand!

Yes, this is indeed true (the bit about dying white dogs) Casper once stole a bottle of ketchup and it took aaaagggges to go away.

Not bathing a dog regularly is actually false, depending on which type of shampoo is used. Johnsons and other well known brands of shampoo, flea shampoos etc are harsh and full of chemicals so no dont bath your dog often in commercial shampoo. Grooming salons use gentle, plant based shampoos which wont harm your dogs skin and can be used regularly. You can buy good shampoo here...

Alternatively it wont do your dog any harm to bath regularly with human baby shampoo as it is so mild, even on a newborn baby, the downside is, it does not get rid of real muck!!.
