View Full Version : Found cheap site for Printer cartridges last week!
Photoglossy.com (http://www.photoglossy.com) sells dirt cheap consumables for most Printers, I bought an Epson compatible black ink cartridge from there last Sunday, was dispatched Monday and arrived yesterday, for just under 3 quid with free postage!
Until now I've always used official Epson carts to fill my Printer, so I'm a bit wary of using an Epson compatible, which is why I only bought 1 despite it being cheap enough at £2.95 to buy a few.
I think you will find www.bigink.co.uk cheaper.Well they are for my Canon ip6000.
RiffRaff 02-10-2008, 19:49 I'm not very convinced by so-called compatible cartridges.....my son's just knackered a relatively new Stylus R285 by using some, courtesy of the black cartridge deciding to leak after using it for a few prints.
It also invalidates your warranty of course, so it's debatable whether they're truly a saving in the long term.
I have been using cartridges from BigInk for about 6 yrs now & never had a problem.

I knackered a new printer with 'cheap' refilled cartridges, they leaked too

Have to say that I think you've been very fortunate!
A couple of years ago I saved a few bob by buying some crappy make - can't recall the name, but Staples sell 'em (or used to) - and it screwed my Canon. Took it back to Cole Brothers, still under warranty, and they forwarded it to the manufacturers.
A couple of weeks later, I got a call from Coles, stating that the engineer's report blamed the "bogus" ink for totally ruining the print head, and as the guarantee clearly stated that you should only use their own ink brand, it wasn't covered......Cost me a new print head as a result, and a real nasty letter attached from Canon to boot.
Appears that the cartridges might be compatible, but the ink might not be....
Apparently, there's ink and there's ink......
Big ink is a big business.I print a lot of photo`s with it and never a problem.Just about pack up tomorrow now.
wizzardofODD 02-10-2008, 20:22 bought some today for my ancient epson c62 from that shop nr parkway rbt at handsworth (complex i think its called) colour or black .... £1.50 each
TheBlueDragon 02-10-2008, 21:42 I only use the propper cartriges as I find with ink you get what you pay. If you pay pennys you wont get a cartrige that will last.

If it's not made by epson it voids your warranty - little tip when (let's face it it usually is a case of when) you send it for repair remove the cheapo cartridges.

...but the ink that damaged/blocked your printhead is still there, and that's what they (can) check if they're "suspicious".

I know so keep suspicion down!
On my printer when it says the ink is low I just press the resume button each time it comes up and it continues to work for ages after that.I was once told that in some of the so called proper cartridges there is a device for saying the cartridge is empty when it has still a lot of ink in it.I will still carry on buying from BigInk.

My Bold.
It's proper, not propper :D

If he wants to get really pedantic, it's "cartridge", "pennies" and "won't"!

Which can be bypassed, although I actually thought it was the printer itself that did this.
Edit: 4900 posts :partyhat:
does anyone knows who does the cheapest "genuine" inks?

There's a guy at the M1 Junction 29 car boot sale most Saturday afternoons.... they look like legit Epson jobs, but........
wizzardofODD 03-10-2008, 23:25 i have used compatible cartridges for ages now with no problem , cant understand why anyone would rather pay £20 (plus) rather than a couple of quid

Hear,hear.
The price of Printers nowadays, I don't understand why anyone buy's Cartridges anyhow.
I used to have big problems with the compatible cartridges with my old inkjet printer, which I think was to do with the fact that on my printer the print head was integral to the cartridge rather than part of the printer and the original (and not reused) cartridges produced a much superior print quality without smudging, streaks or marks. I regarded the money spent on pattern cartridges and refill ink as wasted because of the amount of substandard printed copies that had to be thrown away.
EDIT- I now use a laser printer instead.
I tried the cartridge the other night, seems to be fine, printed an old Word document, have yet to try it on anything like images though, I'll try that next week.
