View Full Version : New deal ONLY, what the hell is that about?
Just tried calling a job and was asked if I was on new deal to which I replied no because, well because I'm not....
In that case we can't go any further , they've got a job to fill, I could fill, who cares whether I've been out of work all my life or not, I work damn hard when I 'can get a job' so why should someone who doesn't want to work get priority over me...this bloody country is all wrong

they probably get susbsidised
Ugh, New Deal sucks anyway.
It's full of unskilled 16 year olds with the work ethic of a gnat, who don't want to be there but have been sent by their careers "advisor" at School.
I too have lost out on jobs because of it, OK the last one I went for 10 years ago, I didn't want the job but was desperate to get off the Jobseeker's so I would've took it, it was working the phones in a Taxi place in S5.
iamdonkey 02-10-2008, 14:45 if older man semi skilled man going to take the unskill low pay jobs what future does a 17 year old spotty face school leavers have getting a job?

I see what you're saying, the only thing I object to personally, is the fact that employers would rather take on said spotty faced kid with the work skills of a gnat, than a guy like me, who's worked, albeit in a mostly voluntary capacity, for the last 18 years and thus has skills that would benefit an employer?!
OMG I was thinking of coming out of retirement and taking a Christmas job....I'm confused enough as it is with discovering that both of the job-centres I know are no longer there....I was already wondering where do people go these days for jobs and now something else I know nothing about....New Deal??

my link was more accurate ;)
Why? It was the exact SAME link as I posted! :loopy:
Thanks for those....I shall study them:thumbsup:
I was under the impression that New Deal provided a financial incentive to the employers to take on somebody who had been out of work for a certain length of time. Although having a quick look at that link it sounds like they don't have to pay them at all(??)
If I've read it right, that's probably why you were turned down. All wrong, though.

The majority of people on New Deal are either on ND 18-25 or ND 25 +. Perhaps you should consider getting a job yourself rather than doing voluntary work

Did you start your volunteering while still at school?

Yes, I went on a voluntary work experience placement while still at School, I spent 2 weeks at Krisalis Software in Rotherham.
