There are numerous variables that can have an effect on your broadband speed. For example, the current usage of the exchange - so the time of day, day of the week etc.
The 'up-to' advertised rate pretty much means that in optimum conditions, you'll get for example, 20 Mbps

I'm on a 20 meg connection and I've got over 10 meg about 7 times in the last year. They are upgrading my area in November which should increase the speed and they have reduced my bill to about £25 a month for the full package of TV, Phone and Internet
the virgin people said we wouldnt get 10 untill near xmas whether they moved it forward ????

I was receiving 247KB until this week i now have 25mb with BT infinity.
Other than for one evening a couple of weeks ago (when there was a local Virgin issue) I have never seen my speeds drop below the 50Mbit package I'm subscribed to.
Virgin Broadband is awesome, i have a double fibre link in so i am getting 100MB broadband.... got it at a cheap price and i am getting the full service, i have no issue with them and there service is great.

Please don't take this the wrong way - I am just interested - Why do you need a double link is it a business you are running or what?
