As a Chinese linguist I am particularly interested in the twinning link with the Chinese city of Anshan Could you please incorporate some information on the site?

I think the twin link was set up by the Council in the early/mid '80s (1983/84). Twins already existed with Bochum, Germany; Donestk, Ukraine and I think a link has since been set up with a town in Nicaragua?

After initial activity - civic delegations each way - I'm not sure much has been done with the link with Anshan.

Maybe you know different?

I was led to believe that the connection with Anshan was allowed to be put to one side following the Tian An Men square troubles, but it is another14 years on and surely we should be trying to repair any connection with the country with a potential to become an eventual rival to the U.S for world leadership. The town of Anshan has the largest steelworks in the country and one wonders if opportunities for trade are also being missed.i'll bet the French and Germans have explored this connection already. Come on Sheffield council, let's hear of your plans with regard to Sino-British relations
