there's one on mondays at Wath Rugby club (back of tescos) which used to be good with a sociable atmosphere, and one at beighton which was far more regimented, and run by Norma Naylor
Email the kennel club for a list of clubs in the area

sheff290 01-10-2008, 22:08 where is the one at beighton and is it still there the only one i have used is in chesterfield at hasland but a bit far so beighton would be great if its still going do you know what day it is on thanksx
knoxyovs9 01-10-2008, 22:18 what kind of dog you got may i ask as im trying to contact people who like to show there dogs ? thanks x
Just off Queen's Road I think it's called sheff290.
I wouldn't say Beighton is 'regimented' as such. In fact, I thought Wath had more of a structure to it really.
At Beighton it's in the working men's club which is on a little road off Queens Road (will look on a map in a sec) and there's a bar open, people sit around, have a chat, dogs tend to mill around the owners and socialise and then there are two mats set up so that you have two going at once and you just queue up down the sides waiting for your turn.
I must get back to Beighton actually, we don't really go for ringcraft anymore (I can't run so can't do the movement) but it's good for getting Takara handled by other people and meeting other dogs.
Strix, is Wath definitely back in the Rugby Club now? I know they moved elsewhere when it flooded but wasn't sure if they'd moved back?
Hmm... it might actually be ON Queens Rd... If you are coming from the city centre and get to the roundabout that takes you into Beighton Village and take the right at the roundabout you go up a little road with speed bumps, it's the 2nd or 3rd road off to the left. Just after a bus stop I think and there's high fencing on the property on the corner that you turn left on.
Working Mens Club is after the chippy.
knoxyovs9 01-10-2008, 22:27 aww thank you very much but witch one would you recomend as my shiba pup is very challenging so i need someone who has plenty of expeience ?
Both clubs are very experienced but tbh, I wouldn't take advice from either of them  (Because I've been given duff advice from both of them).
The advantage Wath has is it also does match nights making it a bit more fun, I think it runs every week (?) whereas Beighton is twice a month and it incorporates an obedience session into the evening which Beighton doesn't do.
knoxyovs9 01-10-2008, 22:33 thanks as i am only 14 year old and i need some practise in as i have qualified for richmond champ show junior handling semi finals thnx x
Oh, I agree Lotti - Wath is a little more structured but not more regimented ;) If you're prepared to work hard with your dog, Beighton is probably a good choice
It is on Queen's Road - or at least Queen's Road is one of the roads that runs across either the front or the back of the WMC which cuts right from one side of the block to the other
Lotti's directions work if you come off the Woodhouse/Beighton roundabout on the A57, rather than from the Crystal Peaks end of Beighton
Sorry - no idea if Wath club moved back in to the rugby club, you'd have to look them up - Wath and West Melton I think is their offical title
knoxyovs9 01-10-2008, 22:37 thanks do you have any tips for showing ?
My advice knoxy would be to contact your breeder in the first instance, and see if he/she can recommend somebody
Read up on your breed and their show requirements, and see if your breeder is able to give you any pointers too - then attend classes
Along the way you'll meet plenty of people who'll tell you how long they've 'been in dogs', and who appear to know everything about everything, but learn to pick the wheat from the chaff, and to figure out who really does know their stuff
I had one trainer was adamant I was doing pretty much everything wrong, told me how I should be doing it, and qualified what she said by informing me which esteemed breed expert she was quoting. I told her his breeder had informed me differently, and when she heard who Brude's breeder is she ceased treating me like I was completely clueless ;)
thanks do you have any tips for showing ?only one - confidence ;)
if you get nervous, it goes straight down your lead, and really puts the dog off causing them to panic ;)
You need to know your breed, and one good way is to meet other people showing your breed
champ shows are expensive, but open shows are considerably cheaper, and a little more relaxed, so pick up the show schedules when you get to a class - they're usually out on the secretary's table
and get in touch with the breed club too - they're always useful people to talk to too :)

Thanks for that Strix, I'm no good with directions or road names, it took me months of going to actually get there without taking a wrong turn on the way!
You can no longer get into the WMC from the back - you have to go from the front now I think. They blocked it off, presumably due to people messing about when passing through.
sheff290 02-10-2008, 23:07 do you have a phone no for this place or postcode i am crap at directions think i may go i have a bitch i want to show next year, i have done some before but not with this dog bordeaux have come off the import registar this year and from next year will be showing at crufts so quite exciting the bitch i have shown before is beautiful but doesnt like the show ring prefers to lounge about at home, so fancy having ago with my puppy bitch her brother is qualified already for crufts i also have a french bulldog that i want to show aswell much easy to handle in the ring
sheff290 02-10-2008, 23:16 what kind of dog you got may i ask as im trying to contact people who like to show there dogs ? thanks x
i have dogue de bordeaux and french bulldogs showing is very competitive and can be long days and expensive i would just try it , it isnt for everyone you can have the best dog in the ring but some dogs dont like it , some thrive off it i would give it a try and se how you go .
sheff290 I'll try and find the number for Beighton for you :) Not sure off the top of my head but have a feeling I know a dally person who can give it me (will have to find her number first though!)
I don't show my dog at all (he's a bit of a reject) and don't show my bitch regularly, in fact I haven't shown her for ages but was considering entering a champ show again in February if I can afford to go. I have dallies.
As sheff290 says there's no point forcing a dog into the ring if they don't enjoy it, it's not fair on the dog and they won't perform for you anyway. If your dog enjoys it, it doesn't matter to me if she gets placed (she's never got higher than 4th in a champ show which is annoying, we were nearly placed 3rd and I was inwardly screaming 'we qualified' but then got moved down in favour of another at one show!) if we both enjoy ourselves it was worth it. But then I'm only a hobby shower ;)
