I am delivering a session on Equal Opps and am looking for an unusual visual example to use - has anyone been to any good training and got any ideas

I did some work with the Department for Education and Skills Equality and Diversity Unit for about two years; I would love to be of help if I can. Care to expand a bit?

What about some kind of Ying Yang design?

Is it a type of logo you need or a photograph?

Thanks - The course is related to child care and I want the emphasis to be on the need to treat children with equal concern, giving them all equal opportunities and not the currently held view in some child care settings that all children need and should be treated the same! Its an evening course everyone is tired so I thought a visual ice breaker type thing to get the point home would be good, but the ones I have heard of are a tad naff! Any ideas would be welcomed - I am new to tutoring and want to be effective and perhaps a little radical!

Paul,
I'm still unclear what you're trying to achieve from the session. Is it designed to raise awareness that all children are unique and have different requirements? The phrase "equal opportunities" covers a lot of different aspects. Equality of opportunity with regards to race, with regards to disability, sexual orientation and gender.

If you want a sketch to illustrate how children differ you might want to illustrate the differences in home life, in religion even in disability.

Please do come back again if you need some more help - happy to provide help where I can.

Is it just one picture you need or a video, photograph etc.

If you need any help with "inclusive" child care topics etc, PM me as I may be able to help. I'm involved with something similar and it could be termed as a little "radical", given todays curriculum.

Paul,

Are you talking about diversity in education or are we talking about getting child care providers to take the time to work with each child and put together individual development plans?

If you are referring to the latter and are presenting to a group of caregivers, you could perhaps use a photo of an old tramp with the heading "If his caregiver only took the time..."
