I just upgraded my Broadband connection to the 2Mb option and was sent a replacement modem. Shame on me for installling it...:)

It's a Thompson modem that looks like a big silver mouse and it's a hog for current. (USB modem). The PC we use as a router is a little old and I think that the current suppply to the USB port is rather less than would be perfect. Result is it occasionally crashes and then won't come back until I down the PC.

Oh well, another reason for me to blow some money on a proper wireless modem / router.

Having said that, I didn't install ANYTHING else from the BT CD.

Also, the connection speed is great!

Buy an ethernet router you tight git!

I haven't managed to get a USB modem working yet, but I've installed many ethernet modems\routers without a problem. You don't have to install any additional software on your PC either.

hehehehe....

Actually, the USB modems, despite my whining, haven't been too bad. I've had two or three of them working and they seem pretty reasonable.

I know what you mean about an ethernet router, though. The Towers is totally wireless and I'd like to keep that way if I can.

And yup, I'm tight. How can I afford expensive hobbies if I have to spend money on them? ;)

I've found a way around that, I just over order from suppliers so I don't technically spend money on my hobby. I 'inadvertantly' over ordered myself a new DVD-RW drive the other week.

Might have to over order quite a few access points next month, coverage here is pretty poor with just the one, even though it's only 10' away through 1 sheet of plasterboard.

If any of you are tempted by an ethernet router I've used a lot of Netgear modems and routers in the past and have found them reliable, I'm just trialling Linksys at the moment and am happy with them so far. D-Link have always given me troubles with the kit defaulting itself.

Hiya Joe :)

My BT Voyager 2100 wireless Router is winning group tests all over the place at the minute.
I paid £100 for the Router, Wireless card for PC, Wireless card for Laptop and ethernet cable, all in one box from PC World.
