I'm slowly in the process of replacing my videos with DVDs (Lord knows when I've got them all I will probably never set foot outside!)... the ones I am finding hard to replace are the ones I taped off the telly. Some only seem to be available as Region 1 versions. Does anyone else have this problem? Care to share the ones you're after?

My replacement list is quite vast but I've listed a few below - if anyone has any ideas where to track them down please let me know:

- I Know Where I'm Going
- The Shop Around The Corner
- The Bride Wore Red
- Baby It's You
- Possessed
- The Devil and Miss Jones
- The Model and the Marriage Broker

Thanks

Regular checking on Ebay is the best idea I think. At some point, almost anything will crop up on there for those who wait. Rarities that I want that have been on Ebay occasionally are 'Killdozer' (70's made for TV sci-fi/thriller about plant machinery that go on a attacking spree) and 'Melody/S.W.A.L.K' (Very sentimental 70s romantic drama with Mark Lester, Jack Wild and Tracy Hyde - sort of school romance). Last time I saw Melody was on Yorkshire TV back in the early 90s! Killdozer was last seen in the late 80s! Surely master tapes are sitting hidden away somewhere all ready to provide an official dvd release. I still like VHS tapes though!!!

A good site to look at is Amazon.com, I've found a few 'rare' dvd's on there. Also I love film.com is good as you can buy them and download them straight away and burn them onto dvd.

Play.com is a good site to check, especially with the Play traders. Managed to get 'The last dragon', and 'Leprechaun' off there eventually. Still looking for 'Tales from a hard city'.

Thanks for all the suggestions, will do some 'e-window shopping', on my lunch-hour of course. Have also used a site called e-Bid, where I managed to get a copy of The Whisperers which I couldn't find anywhere else.

I have about 900 movies on VHS which I dont have on DVD.....they are fine 0n tape, why bother buying them twice, unless of course the DVD is offered in a better aspect ratio than off the TV recordings.....most films on TV now are shown in 16:9, usually the same as DVD releases, but not all of course...if the DVD is 2.52:1 (full scope) I will have it, but only if its closer to the original format than the VHS tape....

Still think decent pro grade VHS tape is close to DVD quality......even on a big screen

That's a good point you make, goldenfleece. I think I just got fed up of so many pieces of kit on the tv shelf, but I still have a vhs player downstairs. It's just I like watching dvds in bed, but then there's always the danger of getting too cosy and falling asleep before the end!

You know what took me ages to find? movie called Drive. Has that mark whatshisface guy.... cheap kung fu action movie but for some reason I love it heh. First saw it on channel 5 when it first started up... had it on a vhs from poundland that jumped about all over the place. I think it was about 3 years ago a friend found it in gamestation for me heh.

They do second hand dvds, might be worth a look in.

You won't find all of them but this is a good site
www.find-dvd.co.uk not only does it tell you where to buy them it also price checks.
I managed to find Leon on here for a friend who had been trying ages.
