it turns out to be a false black widow also known as rabbit hutch spider http://www.uksafari.com/falsewidows.htm

I think they are all finding homes for the winter, they appeared after the heating went on !

Since the bunnies vacated it, I have no need to allow them to live there to keep the flies down now, so Mr Speedy will be going in with the Dyson, and then giving the said Dyson a thorough cleaning out before I will allow it back in the house!

no, don't kill spiders - it's bad luck -and besides, think of all the good they do! Black widows have a red flash on their back, but yes, it does kind of look a bit like one- as far as I know though, this type are harmless.

Urm correct me if I am wrong but I thought that Black Widows cant survive in this climate. I could be wrong, but lived abroad for a few years and was advised that even if they came over with the furniture in the packing crates they would not survive. - PLEASE someone tell me that is correct... Feel quite ill now!!!

That's definitely true! I hardly think they can claim asylum in Britain - I mean, if they come from places like Australia - why can't they stay there? And take all their furry 8 legged relatives with them :gag:

Even my cats walk the other way if they see "critters" or is it just I feed them too well for them to care and come to my rescue....:roll:
