I'm trying to get rid of those irritating little description boxes that pop up next to the mouse pointer if it lingers on a file name or icon for longer than a nano second.
It even says "click here to begin" for the start button - like I didn't know that already!
Does anyone know how I get rid of them??
I've tried Tools>Folder Options>View>Show pop-up description, but that just seems to toggle between a big box and a little box.
Have a look on here:

Pretty sure there's a twaek for what u need
And more precicely:

Thanks for the speedy reply, but how do I edit the registry?
Alastair
Click Start menu, then click RUN and then type REGEDIT.
Be careful though, cos if you mess up the registry, your PC won't work any more... Well Windows won't anyway.
Be careful..!!
Start>Run> type in regedit
Use the tree on the left to browse to the place in the registry you need to edit, it's all quite logical.
Don't mess with anything else there tho!

Start>Run> type in regedit[/B]
Hmmm, now there's another thing - what happened to Run? It's gone from my Start menu, maybe it ran away???
Right click something, (task bar, start button or something round there), and hit properties. Somewhere in there lies the options of displaying content on the start menu, I think.
I can't remember how exactly as I got rid of that annoying XP thing on my biege box!

Must admit I have never looked to see if it even still is on the Start menu after upgrading from 2000 to XP - I just use Windows key + R :)

In XP..... Right click on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen, click properties, click start menu tab, make sure that "start menu" is checked, then click customise. Click the advanced tab, and then check the items you want to appear in your start menu.
Hope that helps!
