View Full Version : Walkers in S20 area MadChick 30-09-2008, 14:30 I am keen to start walking but i dont know anything about what gear to buy or which group to join. I live in S20 area. Are there any walking groups near this area? scoobz 30-09-2008, 20:01 Hi Madchick. I'm afraid you might be out of luck trying to find a walking group based specifically in or near S20, your best bet for a local-based group is to look on the Ramblers Association website. There are lots of groups for different ages there. Alternatively you could give our little group a try. We do informal walks for all ages every Sunday, details of which you can find in this section. Most people get to the starting point by car, but they are normally accessible by public transport too. Regarding walking gear, all you need is suitable footwear, and a coat! Hope to see you soon. Strix 30-09-2008, 21:34 How fit are you MadChick? Are you a complete novice to walking or have you made good use of the footpaths and fields in this neck of the woods already? Are you fit enough to dive straight in with some hill walking or are you wanting to do some low level walks to build up fitness? If you get yourself down to somewhere like CCC Go Outdoor near Brammal lane, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and will be able to fit you out correctly with anything from a sturdy pair of trainers to a pair of winter walking boots, depending on what's going to suit the type of walking you plan to take up Are you not able to get to the walking group outings? Scoobz - are none of your regulars travelling from that side of town? wudy 07-11-2008, 15:39 Hi Every Tuesday & Friday From Killamarsh. contact email stewartbuxton@talktalk.net Wudy willman 07-11-2008, 15:49 Hi Every Tuesday & Friday From Killamarsh. contact email stewartbuxton@talktalk.net Wudy How far and what times ? I thought Rita did the walks? MadChick 07-11-2008, 16:12 I have not been walking before so i guess i am a novice but I have been a regular at the gym and keep fit classes so i suppose i am relatively fit. Thanks for you replies, i will have a 'walk' down to ccc next week and get myself some boots then all i need is my first walk...... (i have done a few laps of rothervalley over past few weeks.....) I could only do Saturday and SUnday walks at the moment as i work full time. I have looked on Ramblers site and they do some good walks. Once again thanks for your advice... M wudy 08-11-2008, 14:16 Yes Rita is still involved. We do about 5 or 6 miles then back to the leisure centre for coffee. Do I need to let anyone know in advance or is it ok to just turn up at the leisure centre wudy 12-11-2008, 13:39 Hi Just turn up about 9:45 Tueasday or Friday. Please wear strong shoes or boots, wet weather gear if needed. When we get back to centre for tea/coffee you will need to change your boots (or leave them outside) to come into the centre. We have a website but at the moment it won't let me include it in here. if you send me an email I will send you the link, my email is stewartbuxton@talktalk.net Hope to see you in the future Wudy |
