A SOUTH Yorkshire nightspot owner has been caged for 18 years for subjecting two women to a sickening catalogue of rapes and sadistic abuse.
Ruthless Michael Bierton beat, kicked and humiliated the women over a number of years in a bid to prevent them revealing his obsession for sex.
One of the women was so terrified of the 6ft 2ins, 20 stone businessman she would .....

...... Jailing Bierton, Mr Justice Holland said he had considered imposing a life sentence but decided against it because he had no previous convictions for sexual offences. Mills, of Featherstone, was jailed for four years after being convicted of one count of rape.

This must obviously have been truly horrific for the women involved.

I don't mean to be anyway unsympathetic here, but, I can't understand why they didn't get the police involved earlier? It is so very sad that this sick individual (and his 'friend') were allowed to get away with such horrific abuse over a period of 'years'.

I agree with you Hels. Also, I'm not sure why this has even been posted on the Sheffield Forum ... at this stage it just seems a little prurient.

The case is over, guilt proven and the guilty punished. What are we as Forummers supposed to do with this information?

TBH with you Don - some men's brutality to women maybe an appropriate discussion as a generality but discussing a real case, concerning real people seems a little .... well, the victims or their relatives could be viewing these boards.

I don't watch look north as harry grations fashon sense is even worse than mine and my clothes make me want to vomit. Most of the local news I pick up is from websites like Sheffield forum so I welcome stories like this.

I'm posting here as a user, not as a Mod.

I know that there are some total c***s in the world but I don't necessarily feel the need to regurgitate the details online.

The reporting of these sorts of cases by the media IS prurient; it should be enough to say something along the lines of 'the b****** got what was coming to him and went to jail for various sexual offences.

I see no point in ANY media retelling the details for the titilation of it's readership. I'm sorry - whilst the public good may be served by detailing that soemone is a predator in this way, there is no public good to be gained from detailing that he made soemone eat vomit.

It's prurient, intrusive and unpleasant for the women involved to see this splattered all over the media. It's also voyeuristic in the extreme.

I'm not insular, and not anti-men, but I do like to be respectful to people who have already suffered and do honestly believe that no benefit to society comes from the press dealing with tehse unpleasant cases in such a detailed manner.

Joe, I agree with most of what you say and i understand your point of view but Don's post is pretty much what was on the front page of the Star. The women have not been named and like many other cases like this i imagine there has been a media blackout n this trial until the case was finished.
The Judge has done something that deserves a bit more discussion. Jailing somebody for 18 years means they could be out in 9-10 years time. If they had been jailed for life i imagine the tariff would have been for longer and their jail time would be much more structured.

I agree with ruby and Joe P here. There are doubtless many warped individuals who would be excited to read of the refinements of cruelty in this case. Let us leave this sort of thing to the vulgar tabloids. No useful purpose can be gained by revisiting the miseries described.

Ok the details are very sickening and maybe a little more subtlety could be applied to such a post when describing it but surely this is in the media and Don kiddick has every 'right' to comment on it.

Providing details enable more informed debate -having said that i agree that there are certain occasions when specific information could be omitted but that would be down to the poster (within the rules of the forum of course)
