Hey everyone.

Just wondering is it illegal on a forum to publish someones IP address and email addy for people to abuse you on?

This has happened to me on a man utd forum and Im just wondering who to report this too if anyone.

Don't know about 'legal' or not, except in civil terms it might be abreach of privacy. Also, it's probably against the T & Cs of the site, so contact the Forum Moderators.

On this Forum we tend to come down hard on people who do publish such informtion without permission, and we also hide e-mail addresss from other forum users.

Whilst the Site Administrators can see IP addresses and e-mail addresses, this information is not available to users on SF.

Sorry I can't be more helpful - go to the Forum Admin on the MU site would be the first port of call.

It isn't on and if the forum administrators don't do anything about it, it isn't a forum worth being on so ask them to delete your details.

Heyup Joe, glad to see your on here when I need some advice.

Its one of the mods thats put it on the mu forum mate.
They are complete prats.

And people are giving me a lot of jip now...

Any ideas?

Also the MU chat forum that Im having problems with is arranging different protests against Malcolm Glazier and the Coolmore Mafia and they are planning it to turn nasty so I dont know whether to inform the police or not- I just dont want to see anyone get hurt.

Cheers!

Report the violation of the Ts&Cs to the Mods or admin on the MU forum, if they're any good they'll deal with it and hopefully ban the poster who got your details for breach of said Ts&Cs.

I would if I were the admin, ban them and probably report them to their ISP.

Blood and sand - if that's the case then it'll prove difficult to get it shifted. You could ask them to pull it and if they don't suggest you might go to their Hosting Company and complain that one of their clients is breaching the Data Protection Act? (Not sure if that's 100% accurate but it's a start!)

If push came to shove, how easy is it for you to change e-mil addresses? Do you have a fixed IP? Again, if you are being harassed then I'd suggest that your ISP might be willing to let you change IP address.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Good Luck - if it looks like it's getting hairy then the Police might be auseful threat to the Forum Admin and even their hosting company.

Its the main mod- there thats started the problem Rich.
And they have banned me as well so I cant change the details unfortunately.

The mod has posted my IP and email address to the whole forum to have a crack at me.. brill aint it!

I want to report the mod and also the site in general for this behaviour.

Contact thier web host with a complaint. If a moderator did that on my forum they would be immediately banned.

Cheers everyone for all the help in this:

I have reported their site to their host now so hopefully the nasty pieces of work will be without a site tmrw!
