No. Very over-rated. It`s a shame that you can`t get decent thai food in Sheff.

Baan thai next to waitrose on london road absolutely gorgeous!!

I've not had a bad meal there and the seafood has been of particularly good quality every time I've been, maybe I got lucky with catch days but they've been consistent for me personally.

I also like the Siam Inter Thai further up London road too although not quite as much. Would be willing to recommend both.

No way baan thai is ace, starter mixed plattar is top.

There is a really good thai, maybe better down london road which is also very cheap. Cant remeber the name though :s

as anyone that is familiar with Thai cuisine as it is served in Siam itself, getting your hands on decent Thai food in Sheffield isn't all that easy. I don't especially like any of the Thai restaraunts here, and my favourite classic Thai green curry is probably from the Wild Rice takeaway on London Rd, even though they're Chinese, not Thai. Prices are good here, about the same as Indian food is in Sheffield. Usually, Thai food is - for no good reason - 20-30% more expensive than Indian food in the UK. But then Indian food is much more expensive than Thai food is in Thailand - I guess you pay extra for the perceived extra exoticism.

Could not disagree more if I tried. I've spent a lot of time in Thailand, and south east asia on the whole, and find this to be one of the better Thai places I've eaten in within Europe. Granted, it isn't as good as what you'd get in Thailand, but it certainly isn't bad. It compares to the decent places in London (where the good quality ingredients are more widely available) which is saying something. Not that I'm saying you should make concessions, but it's certainly worth considering.

Incidentally, it's called the Siam International. :)

My girlfriend says the closest thing she has tasted to a 'proper' green curry since we got back from east asia is from west one suprisingly- she said it was amazing.

Might give it another go then Brian. My wife liked her meal there but I`m very picky about thai food. Going to York this weekend and trying one there! :)

Oh yeah, the Siam House on Goodramgate in York is one of my favourites - I've never had a meal there that was less than excellent!

I like the Baan Thai as well - it's one of our restaurants of choice when we go out for lunch from work.

Yes it was Siam House we went to.

It was ok-ish. I think I`m just too picky about Thai food; I`ve been spoilt in the past. :(

I find they make the green curries far to rich. I make a much better one! With the Thai suppermarket further up the road you can get fresh thai basil, lemon grass, galangal and everything else you need.

We went to Baan Thai for my mum's 75th and after living in thailand for 10 yrs can say the food was great - you have to remember that every Thai restaurant will be slightly different as each part of Thailand have their own way of making different dishes!! so it depends which part of Thailand the chef originated from!

How much is the Sunday buffet?

I meet up with the girls for lunch at the Baan Thai fairly regularly (every couple of months) and they're always lovely and the food very tasty.

I was nervous about going to Baan Thai earlier this year, but only because I've never eaten Thai cooking and have an aversion to curry.

I was bowled over! In fact, I instantly booked a table for the following week and took some friends for a meal. I'm now a confirmed fan of Thai cooking and I have Baan Thai to thank for that.

I'm a big fan of Baan Thai, for the decor and the lovely staff as much as the food.

Great place :)

Maybe it's got better since I went but didn't like it much.
It used to give me a laugh when I saw the sign as the name sounds very much like the mandarin word for pervert.

Baan Thai is good but the food is no better than any other Thai eatery in town and certainly not worth the hefty price tag. It's easy to be seduced by it's opulent interior and to think that it's better because it's more expensive.

Thai at the Travellers in Holmesfield is better imo. Try it!

£11!!!! Not the rubbish, dried up bits under a bulb variety that you often get in buffets either!!! Baan Thai is lush :) Great soups and traditional puds too :)

It's not expensive? Would have thought you were thinking of somewhere else, but it's the only one with a lovely interior... Cheap as chips though!!! Went other night, two beers and two courses, £20! Can't say fairer than that!

That sounds more like it!

I had two courses and two beers and it came to over £30. I didn't order anything extravagant either. I still felt a bit hungry afterwards. Maybe I made unwise choices. Hang on... maybe you were in my party, ate most of the food and slipped a twenty into the kitty when no-one was looking!

The £11 buffet sounds good.
