Did you receive a recovery disk with the laptop?
If not it may be a pain I went out to a forummers a bit ago and the virus had attacked the restore facility.
Jason Bourne 28-09-2008, 20:32 You mean a fresh reinstallation of Windows?
Firstly, back up all your data :)
Your Dell laptop should have been supplied with a restore CD or Windows CD. You should be able to start your computer from the CD-ROM and reinstall Windows again.
If you need drivers for your hardware, you should be able to pick them up from Dell's support website:

banjodeano 28-09-2008, 20:42 yeah a complete restart, i cant see any other way, if i could get round it i would
Savannah2 28-09-2008, 20:50 What pop-up are you getting?
banjodeano 28-09-2008, 20:57 something about security, system 2008 or something.telling me i am infected. telling me to subscribe and delete my viruses,
Jason Bourne 28-09-2008, 20:57 Backing up your data is straightforward - just copy all of your personal documents to another external location, such as an external hard disk, USB memory key, CD-R disc.
You must do this because the Windows installation procedure may wipe your hard disk so you'd lose all the data currently on there.
banjodeano 28-09-2008, 21:02 thanks Jason. will get that done,
Savannah2 28-09-2008, 21:09 something about security, system 2008 or something.telling me i am infected. telling me to subscribe and delete my viruses,
Would this pop-up be 'AntiVirus 2008'? Download Malwarebytes' (http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10878968.html?spi=f57f00566f0b1258b83d44d6866785b6 ) It's free!!
banjodeano 28-09-2008, 21:12 it says, system antivirus 2008...will try that site..many thanks
banjodeano 28-09-2008, 21:13 :) :) :) :) :) :)
Eric_Collins 28-09-2008, 21:36 you get a lot of these on the net.
I use Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 which isn't a cheap option but i get these pop-ups off the net saying i'm infected with 100,000,000,000,000 viruses but my regular virus killer says NO:hihi:
At the end of the day, they are scams to get you to buy a crap product that don't work.
You don't have a virus , you just need a good spywear stopper .
something about security, system 2008 or something.telling me i am infected. telling me to subscribe and delete my viruses,
oh dear antivir08? by any chance (or a variant of?)
Nasty bugger that one I've still got remnants of it on my system.
