Its a new trend where you find some random person in the street and just slap them or hit them(and I dont mean a gentle slap)

I got so wound up i had to take the dog out at the first set of adverts!
I've thought of a new craze. I'm going to call it
"Put your ass in hospital for 2 weeks for slapping an innocent member of the public across the face"
I wonder if it will catch on? :suspect:
As i said, i went out but i hope i missed the part where Tony Blair said that each case will be classed as ABH and there will be no concessions for people under the age of 16.
Someone please tell me that's what happened

'cos it was urgent to grab folks' attention who maybe hadn't got the telly on, to put it on & catch the end of a very good program.
Why are you having a triple rant?
Don_Kiddick 12-05-2005, 21:12 Sorry Vidster, but you also missed the bit where a bloke was set on fire for being asleep at a bus stop.
I really am lost for words.

Don_Kiddick 12-05-2005, 21:29 except to say
Watched it in horror.
I'm absolutely apalled.
I cannot believe that the amoeba that passes for human being these days are so 'bored' that they think this behaviour is acceptable or justifiable.
Bring back the birch - now that would be funny

That's the point when i had to get out of the house. They showed that clip just before the ad's.
These kids are completely :loopy: and their smug, grinning from ear-to-ear attitude on camera shows they aren't bothered about what the police think about what they're doing.
Fire with Fire may be the best way to treat this menace that's sweeping our country i'm afraid :(
rubydazzler 12-05-2005, 21:45 I dont have a TV but I'm sure that now they've all been shown how to do it - it will certainly be sweeping the nation tomorrow.
IMO programmes like this don't serve any useful purpose, they just get everyone all steamed up, give the unknowing ones ideas and don't offer any useful solutions.
Don_Kiddick 12-05-2005, 22:05 I have to say your point is valid RubyD, but on the other hand does it not make the really unwary more alert too?
Just a thought.
rubydazzler 12-05-2005, 22:40 True enough, but look how upset and angry you all were earlier. And nothing you could really do about those feelings either.
I was "mobbed" on Woodseats Road the other night by a gang of youngsters. I'd probably have been even more perturbed if I'd thought they were going to "slap" me as well as try to grab my bag.
This is really just one more thing for us all to have to worry about whenever we go out of the house. Were any useful and workable suggestions put forward as to how to deal with it?
Kristian 12-05-2005, 22:43 Mod note: Threads merged.
Draggletail 12-05-2005, 22:53 OK, I didn't see the programme but saw a couple of news Items/footage about this, and have ranted on a bit tonight in the pub about it (if someone did that to me I would grab them 'roundthe neck etc sort of thing)
BUT how 'real' is it - i.e does anyone on the forum know anyone that has been attacked in this way?
Is it just another case of 'The Media' hyping stuff up and creating fear?
Whats happened to Bird flu?
What about the huge mobile phone scare in the media a few years ago. Don't hear about that now. Is it because we and our children arent suffering from brain tumours?
What about BSE - undoubtedly people have suffered, but not to the extent the media would have had us believe.
And loads of other 'flavour of the month stories' - maybe you can add one of your own...
I could go on. I'm not saying so called 'Happy slapping' :gag:
doesn't exist, or any other of the above..........
*Waits to be flamed by the irate*

:(
This happy slapping stuff has got to be, in part as a result of things like Jackass and Dirty Sanchez on tv which glorifies abusive behaviour - kids no doubt copy this kind of stuff until it becomes acceptable to do 'stunts' on other people
There was a vidoe thing a while ago in america called 'BumFights' where groups of lads went around beating people up on camera and also homeless people or getting them to fight each other on camera for (very) few dollars
its easy to blame tv, its just these scroats with nothing to aim for in life and no discipline.
i watched it and it wound me up so much! my mates and i want to join any vigilante group that gets set up!
JonJParr 13-05-2005, 08:16 I watched this programme last night and was absolutely disgusted by the behaviour displayed by these children. They showed a complete lack of respect for other members of society. Even when interviewed one of the galoot's remarked saying, "It's not nice but at least it's not happening to me..." and "Yeah, but it's funny".
There's no changing the attitudes of such imbeciles. The only joy I can take from the situation is the knowledge that none of them will ever be successful in life, amount to anything or leave a lasting legacy. After they're dead and buried nobody will remember they even existed.
Makes my blood boil.
One is tempted to call these hooded cut-purses and ne'r-do-wells, 'Shirley's Grandchildren'. Shirley, of course, refers to Mrs Shirley Williams, the interfering housewife who singlehandedly wrecked the British education system in the sixties. Things have never been the same since this bossy, fatuous woman went on her crusade to force 'Comprehensive' education on millions. Some schools were successful, with caring teachers and good results. The majority were huge, sprawling places with no control over the teachers let alone the pupils. Here the anti-school counter-culture thrived, and today has reached crisis point. No one dare lay a finger on these fiendish, warped 'kids' [in reality, highly dangerous, evolved primates] as they go about their 'slapping'.
Perhaps a possible solution would be to lower the age of criminal responsibility. As a society, we appear to becoming over-sentimental towards children on one hand, and neglectful on the other. The 'children' involved are perfectly aware of their potential to cause great pain and terror to innocent parties. Indeed, they display great cunning and intellectual acumen in planning their assaults and crimes. They laugh in the face of authority, and spit in our collective faces. They should be taking the consequences. ASBOs are no good; they are sported as a 'badge of honour' amongst the hooded, predatory bands. Prison would not cure them, but it might give them a dose of their own nasty medicine. Never mind the Lib Dem cynicism about the ultimate worth of the penal system- it DOES work! It keeps the wretches away from the rest of us.
I asked my 16 year old son if it happens at his school, he had no idea what I was talking about.
He was stunned and appauled when he saw it.
I often travel on the top of the double decker around about 9.30pm at night on way home from work.
Brick in handbag I think, I am not being a victim to any of that.
There is an interesting discussion here about this -
http://www.blackchat.co.uk/theblackforum/forum8/6503.html
note it was started last year and already seemed quite wide spread. It seems to include a lot of comments from friends of victims and offenders.
Did anybody watch that programme presented by Trevor McDonald last night? About so called ''Happy Slapping''
Its where kids go around slapping poor unsuspecting members of the public whilst filming it on their mobile phones to show all their mates. Two lads even set fire to a bloke who is now now scarred for life and in constant pain.
Whats 'Happy' about that?
there is already a thread on here about it somewhere:thumbsup:
ooopppppppsssssssssssss!!!
sowwy :(
Can we either have a link to the original thread or a merger please Mods?

thanks march, i couldnt find it anywhere!
Thanks i wasnt online last night so I didnt realise!
This would be better in 'General Chat'?
Don_Kiddick 13-05-2005, 20:31 :D This started off in general chat, 'cos I thought it would get seen more.
Someone moved it to Entertainment cos it referred to a TV prog.
It gets around dunnit :hihi:
Me thinks that now the media have given their attention to this daft fad that more idiots will take it up. It was on sky news the other day and in one paper that I saw.
With an increasing interest in 'Jack Ass' type programmes and what have you I hate to think what could happen when more numb skulls take up such things. I'm sure that most, if not all the victims will be people travelling alone or people perhaps from the older age bracket (as the victim in the item I saw on Sky news was). That says a lot in itself doesn't it?

So you find it amusing to watch innocent members of the public being beaten up and/or set on fire? It's a sick world.

It certainly is!
Alex
P.S: Can you perhaps clean the absolute codswallop that has been festering in your PM inbox, as there is something of urgency to be sent to you.
Cheers.
Kthebean 14-05-2005, 16:25 Isn't there something to be said for the idea that these kids might have been playing up to the cameras? I didn't personally see the programme, but I have a funny feeling about the way they recruit people for this kind of thing. Do they just wander around asking kids if they know anyone really bad that does bad stuff? If so then it could be somewhat of a manufactured phenomenon for ratings, etc. Most kids will change dramatically if you follow them round with an interested camera crew.
