ANY one know much about their positions? pay? people? the roles? systems? thank you burny 13-05-2005, 11:01 Erm... I wouldn't recommend it...!! Is it Residential or Business? Lickable 13-05-2005, 11:49 Pay is around 14k for Full time residential People... Some great, some not. Like most places The Roles... Pure Hell. (IMO) Systems... Half are Dos based, half are not. Most fuctions are operated by keyboard and not mouse. moon 13-05-2005, 12:39 "Residential or business?" Do u mean door to door or call centre bases? lol and i aint being thick! so overall its no GOOD place t work 4? MobileB 13-05-2005, 13:00 Originally posted by moon "Residential or business?" Their customer service is based into two different departments - Residential Customer and Business Customers. All are telephone based. I worked there for just over a year when it very first opened 11 years ago now! I made up one third of their Residential Customer Service staff in them days!! mikey 13-05-2005, 15:01 There is speculation of a meger with A N other cable co, very soon. Could be a good time to get in. Watch this space v_meldrew 13-05-2005, 15:31 There is speculation of a meger with A N other cable co, very soon. Could be a good time to get in. Watch this space Speculation?? Long regarded as inevitable "Telewest to pick bankers ahead of NTL deal-sources" http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=internetNews&storyID=2005-05-09T211526Z_01_BAU976529_RTRIDST_0_OUKIN-MEDIA-TELEWEST-NTL.XML unners 13-05-2005, 15:48 I worked there a couple of years ago and although it was very stressful at first due to the company closing some other call centres down, and causing queues of over 45 minutes for over 3 months(I kid you not),there was a really good team spirit within the company and i made some good friends at the time. The pay starts at £11850 rising to 13850 after accreditation, you get free life insurance,24 days holiday, cheap medical cover, plenty of overtime and the best bit was that you got free cable, internet and phone the only thing you paid for was any phone calls.Pity i lived in a area which didnt get cable so i did not qualify.Gutted. If i was ever going to go back into that line of work i would work for Telewest again. moon 13-05-2005, 18:40 so what kind of queries are u expected to deal with? chocotiger 13-05-2005, 19:02 I started along with 14 other new customer service starters at Telewest. I finished my 7weeks training and then quit along with 11 others. I hated the stress & didnt cope very well. Im not use to been swore at for trying to help & being timed when I went to the loo. Ive a couple of mates that work there & think its great but it didnt suit me savbaby 13-05-2005, 19:49 i have never worked for them but i do use telwest and i find when i am phoning for things the staff are under pressure to try to sell/upgrade your services.. i was cancelling my tv ad the guy was practically begging me to stay with them:loopy: moon 13-05-2005, 19:50 O right? SO what about this merge with NTL? TELEWEST must b doing sumthing right? Internetowl 15-05-2005, 08:15 NTL are a worse company performance wise that Telewest...we used to have NTL when I lived in Notts - they were shocking. Telewest tech support is poor too....it'll be chaos if they merge departments etc... Becci85 15-05-2005, 17:10 I currently work as a temp for Telewest business Ops, I started in December along with 9 others, and we were told we would be made permenant after 3 months 6 months later they decided to offer some of us a permanent position, the others just stayed on temping (or leave) until they offer more permanent positions. I turned the offer down as its less money to go to permanent than what I am on now through Office Angels, Don't get me wrong the work is stressful at times but most the people are great I've made loads of friends there whom I will definitely be keeping in contact with!! I hear Residential is better to work for as it's more money and less stress. I personally wouldn't go for the Customer Service roles they do get alot of Poo!! spyro2000 16-05-2005, 10:53 Im currently working at Telewest in Attercliffe, been there nearly 3 years now. Its a decent enough job, great people working there. Ive got to admit the job can be stressful as everyone expects customer service to be able to deal with absolutely everytying. So in Customer service you are the 1st stop for any compaints, aggressive customers etc. The pay is very good and there are great promotional aspects. And the benefits are up there with the best of them. matt1889 17-05-2005, 10:00 Im at work now at Telewest on my lunch! £12.000 Salary to start. Unsociable flex-hours. Health cover (which is openly welcomed due to stress) WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! moon 17-05-2005, 13:21 Originally posted by matt1889 Im at work now at Telewest on my lunch! £12.000 Salary to start. You never get praise for the work you do, you always get picked up on your errrors. Money is ****e, hours could be better, The only thing that is keeping me there at the minute is the people and the fact that i haven't found another job yet (currently having interviews!) Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, most people i have spoken to have had a bad experience from Telewest but one of my friends has been there 4 years now and she loves it. Swing and roundabouts!! spyro2000 17-05-2005, 16:14 Originally posted by matt1889 Im at work now at Telewest on my lunch! £12.000 Salary to start. Unsociable flex-hours. Health cover (which is openly welcomed due to stress) WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I feel for you. Im only working at Telewest part time while im at uni, its decent enough for that. Id NEVER ever consider working there full time. Id go crazy. Not a bad job if you want some spare cash though, and decent benefits. The call monitoring that they do every month is a load of bulls though. They pick up on every little thing. They mark you down on every little thing, even though its obvious that the customer had a good experience on the call and you gave them the correct info, just because you didnt do something as simple as say there name twice in the space of a 2 minute call, or forgot to ask them if they would like to set up a direct debit. If you take a payment you are supposed to ask "would you like to set up a dd". I feel like im working at Mcdonalds asking "would you like fries with that". If I wanted fries I would have asked for fries :@ soupy 21-05-2005, 22:55 I currently work for telewest in there Bus Ops dept and have done for a year since its centralisation. I have worked for a number of company's in various rolls over the years and Telewest isnt that bad at all there are far far worse company's out there than telewest. The job I do is slightly stressfull but it is what you make of it if you let it stress you out it will, there are oppurtunities if you do the work, they wont hand it to you on a plate. Overall I dont mind working for them at all if they paid me a little more I would stop in this job forever a pay raise is on the cards so fingers crossed. :) PeteC 26-05-2005, 07:24 I went for the tests and interview - then Adecco got this crazy idea that i had worked for them before and let them down ( it was news to me!) so now they won't even entertain me when i call them. Shame i got near perfect test results. Never mind - their loss not mine smh2004 29-05-2005, 07:47 yeah I had that problem with Adecco. Originally, I went to Primetime, and they were working in partnership with Addeco. Had my pre screening with Primetime. Then went to Adecco for the tests, who told me "oh you've already applied to Telewest Twice". Eh er, when was that then? No one has put me forward for the final interview at Telewest. Needless to say I didn't get much further than that. PeteC 30-05-2005, 11:49 Well the manager is a lying bitch - she told me they were not advertising for TW at the moment when i wen't down there.. what she obviously forgot was the dam sign outside advertising them! spyro2000 30-05-2005, 15:12 Originally posted by smh2004 yeah I had that problem with Adecco. Toronto 31-05-2005, 02:13 I am currently living in Canada and considering a move to Sheffield area in near future. I was seriously considering applying for a position @ Telewest in Attercliffe....thanks for all these posts. Its all food for thought for me. From what I have read - they do seem like a good company to work for. Ange 15-06-2005, 13:18 id like to know how to applie for a job at telewest. i have a 2 year old im am quiet at first and not alot of confidence but ive worked doing telesales before selling holidays and enjoyed it would someone help me please !!!!!!! thanks lynsey fox20thc 15-06-2005, 13:23 Just thought I'd tag this on as people are job hunting. Norwich Union Direct are looking for staff aswell. They have a big advertising hoarding outside kelly services (recruitment agent) on church street, alternatively you can apply directly, there is a video on the page and I can honestly say I know the nutters on it. click for job info (http://jobs.norwichunion.com/nuvol/tpl_nuvol.asp?KEY=2545511&C=725699254734&PAGESTAMP=dbvamokqbyjlsyrxbu&nexts=INIT_JOBLISTSTART&nextss=&mode=1&newQuery=yes&searchrefno=&searchlocation=1187&searchpositiontype=0&searchjobgenerallist1id=0&searchtext=&formsubmit4=find+a+job...) littleboo 29-06-2005, 14:43 I worked for telewest for 1 year, there are a few people that are all right but there is a lot of bitchiness. the managers are not very good and are poorly trained. when you first start you go into 4 weeks training When I joined there were 12 in my group, by the end of my training there were 3 of us left, by the end of my employment there was only one person left. The turn over of staff is very high, they do have a lot of incentives to work there, but they always seem to move the goal posts. your bonus' is basically a dangling carrot. It is a typical office, which comes complete with all the modern, trendy, arrogant and pretentious employee's and managers Ricky Gervais could not have been closer!!!!! |
