I use Familytree Maker, although not the up-to-date one and I find it excellent. I must have got over 3,000 names on it

I use Family tree maker and have 7 different trees on it, one for each branch I've done, it's the best one by far.

Mine's version 6 but I don't think the later ones are much different.
F.T.M. does everything for you, you just fill the boxes, it tells you how you are related to everyone, you can view your tree in alsorts of formats, it even prints a book for you, it counts how many you have on your tree, I could go on, GET ONE.

Hello everyone,

My name is Mathew and im 19 from Sheffield.

I am trying to find any free sources on the internet where i may be able to trace my own family records, is there such a site.

I would be mainly interested in records such as births, deaths, etc.

Thank you for your help

Please note that some of these databases are still being built so you are not guranteed to find everybody you want

Also try

www.genesreunited.co.uk {it's £7.50 per year but i found over 200 relatives from there including living ones, 100 of these in Australia}

www.genforum.com just put the names that you are searching for and you get everyone else who is looking for the same names, free.

Roughy,

We use Family Tree Maker 2005, which we recently bought to upgrade from version 6 which we had for ages. The new one is better, but there's not an enormous difference between them in everyday use, so if you're going for one from eBay, anything vaguely recent should do the job adequately. We got our 2005 version from PC World where it was on special offer at £20 a while back (and probably will be again at some point - Bank Holiday weekend might be a good one to try). Don't bother going for the extra data CDs though, they're usually pretty irrelevant.

I have been doing my family tree for some years now and would recommend you look at PAF (Personal Ancestral File), it is totally free and is in my opinion the best.
