Noticed it was shut and covered in scaffolding. Is it just a refurb or is there something more serious going on? hope we're not about to lose yet another of the few remaining decent pubs in the Walkley area....

View Full Version : What's happening to the Walkley Cottage? bluecanary 28-09-2008, 16:34 Noticed it was shut and covered in scaffolding. Is it just a refurb or is there something more serious going on? hope we're not about to lose yet another of the few remaining decent pubs in the Walkley area.... dan2802 28-09-2008, 18:55 Being done up. Snooker table out & kitting the room out for food. HotPhil 28-11-2008, 19:53 just been in for first time following refurb. very nice. and thing that impressed me the most - the urinals have been kept. i'm a big fan of the old, sturdy urinal and trough arrangement and it's still there. ace. beer were expensive mind. jamesstarky 28-11-2008, 21:32 Yeah, I was impressed with the whole thing, it still looks cosy, warm and dark, like a good pub should, but its now cleaner and almost plush. Very tastefull. bluecanary 30-11-2008, 18:19 So what's the deal with food now? Used to enjoy the pub grub, then they decided to stop doing food after around 6pm which wasn't at all convenient for us. Does anyone know if they are serving food later since the refurb? pippadoll 30-11-2008, 18:48 Yes, if anyone can let us know what is on the menu. Is it still owned by the people who had the Grindstone years ago. roughy101 13-12-2008, 21:36 has anyone eaten there yet? whats the food like:thumbsup: Rich 13-12-2008, 22:11 If the food's anything like the mush they serve in the Grindstone, I'll be giving it a wide berth.... Grim Reaper 13-12-2008, 22:15 If the food's anything like the mush they serve in the Grindstone, I'll be giving it a wide berth.... But you've not been, so you don't know  haddockman 14-12-2008, 14:53 Been meaning to go into the Walkley Cottage ever since we moved to Walkley! Is it a good pub? Anyone know what beers they serve? Andy C 15-12-2008, 08:22 tetley, black sheep, taylors landlord, bombardier bitter and guest ales. Andy C 15-12-2008, 08:24 food is as before but from new kitchen and gaffers quiz is Thursday night with free sarnies. sheffandy 15-12-2008, 22:30 My mum got taken out for lunch to the Cottage, and said the the food was really nice,& the decor was done really well. royalowl 17-12-2008, 13:35 My mum got taken out for lunch to the Cottage, and said the the food was really nice,& the decor was done really well. The food is always sound in there. Nothing fancy, just good honest home cooked food. Really friendly owners and staff as well, this despite the landlord being a blade! bluecanary 17-12-2008, 13:37 Do they still stop serving food at teatime? Karamazov 17-12-2008, 17:34 We went in a couple of weeks ago at 6:45 and had the (above average) vegetarian quiche and chips. Place was fairly busy and had a 20 minute wait for the food which is fine. I asked about food times and landlord said they were taking orders up to about 7:30. The refurb has been well done and it has a cosy atmosphere. We were impressed - it's a really good to see a walkley pub improving, especially when the rest are just getting worse. Chocca94 21-12-2008, 12:59 Went last night & it was full of screaming kids running amok all over the place. Food was ok but rather bland, and landlady really moody. Wouldn't recommend to go if you want a quiet peaceful meal Freebird 21-12-2008, 21:40 Went last night & it was full of screaming kids running amok all over the place.
