De Lorean died earlier this year. His car though appears to be alive, well and living in Sheffield. I didn't know we had garages with doors that wide.

There is quite often a DeLorean parked on Smith Street in Chapeltown. It belongs to the guy who owns One Stop PC Shop.

It looks fantastic and the number plate has 'What the Flux' on it :hihi: makes me chuckle every time.

The Delorean body was made completely of stainless steel, and in general was not painted. I saw one for sale recently in a small Connecticut town not far from my home for $6000. It has a quite small GT type body not unlike the old VW Sirrocco, and was produced in small quantities around the late 70s

I saw it a year or so ago up in the Norfolk Park area and had to take a photo. Its not very good though as it was took on a VGA Camera phone.

It looks fantastic.

DeLorean's have a fiberglass body tub to which the stainless steel panels are bolted and a mild steel chassis which has an resin coating to protect against rust. They are powered by a Peugeot/Renault/Volvo 2.85ltr V6 engine that produces 130bhp with either a three-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. Grey and black leather trim was the only interior options offered on the regular production cars. In 1983 the problems finally became too much and the factory closed down.. After the closure of the factory in Dunmurray, near Belfast, the remaining parts and partially completed cars were sold at auction for whatever they would fetch. & no they don't look like a Austin Allegro.

I have to agree with Saxon further down on this thread and I can confirm that if you travel up Granville Road towards City Road, there are 3 side roads that are on your left that go up to St Aidens Road at the top and there is a silver De Lorean living up there.

I cannot remember which side road it is on, possibly the top one but cannot be certain.

It is on a W reg and looks in fairly good nick.

Good Hunting.

Call me stupid if you will (and I'm not anti Sheffield) but a whole City getting obsessed because one individual driving round in a half decent sports car seems to show just how very far Sheffield still has to go up the ladder in terms of prosperity and affluence if you ask me !

Would you see this thread on a London or Manchester or Leeds forum ? I think not ...

Since when was the Delorean a 'Sports' Car? It is not exactly built for speed.

Ok, so it may be a little sad that there has been so much attention but I think the same would happen on another forum, put it this way, I go to hospital in London and used to go to hospital in Leeds and have never once seen a DeLorean there! I did once see someone driving around in a sofa though!

Yes, I have to tell you this, I was in London and this sofa with a steering wheel on wheels and a lamp next to it went driving down the road! I could nay believe it!!!!!

Just wanted to share that with you!

Well it is over 3 pages long so yes you might be right!!!

I think it is more to do with the rareity of the car. I think a similar thread would arise if there was a Ferrari Enzo in the city, or an Aston Martin Shooting Brake (thats the AM estate) - very very rare.

Lighten up.

The car is made out of stainless steel, no paint jobs, just brushed/polished stainless panels I wouldn’t have thought they were cheap.

I thing the production cars were made in Island before the company went bust.

One parks regularly on the side street next to the computer shop in chapletowm.

Apparently, hand marks are a nightmare to clean off and look awful on the brushed steel body.

I would'nt say the DeLorean was cheap just poorly designed. The alternator was too weak to keep the battery topped up so sooner or later the battery would go flat, however the central locking system and electric windows would then not work so if you were inside the car at the time you were trapped!!!! :o

De'Loreans are great fun, especiall when you end up parked in between two other cars and cannot get out, lol.

It's a shame the owner ain't modded his car and made it look like the BTTF one.

The hand marks are the same problem you get with stainless kitchen appliances, I worked in a stainless works until the powers that be closed us down.

They are cool. But i'd never want to own one. I think they are OK for spares because aprt form the god awful steel body the rest was bits of other cars.

If you get a chance you ahve to read the delorian story. In some respects the car was simple a cover for other stuff going on. Fraud, IRA involvment, drug smuggling (lots of cocaine apparently) Its well worth googling.

They didn't come with a flux capacitor a standard though and they are really hard to source if yours breaks.

Apparently, hand marks are a nightmare to clean off and look awful on the brushed steel body.

Bizarrely the solution to the handmarks is the same one used with stainless steel kitchen appliances- give it a good wash and dry, then wipe over with a cloth with a tiny touch of baby oil on.

Conjures up very strange mental pictures of someone baby oiling their car.

I saw the DeLorean back in 1964 when I was 13, the driver got out and told me he'd come back in time to get some things sorted. As he left he said he'd call back to see me in 2008, I'm getting pretty excited cos he said he'd bring me all the winning lottery numbers from 2009, then he promised to go to 1966 and make sure that we won the World Cup, and he did !

Imagine my dismay when it pulled away without a VW camper full of Libyans giving chase, before disappearing in a flash, leaving two trails of fire and a spinning number plate.
