Does anybody else on the Forum enjoy watching the BBC's series Airport? I must confess to it being one of my most favourite shows. I think it's the fact that airports rather excite me- the hussle, the bussle, where's that person flying off to and then there's the planes!

Unfortunately episodes are only 30mins long and a series amounts to approximately 5 episodes. Why aren't the series longer? Has anybody else found this?

Is anybody else intrigued by airports?

Tom Hanks?

Iwould rather poke my left eye out with a broken stick than watch a culturally fulfilling programme like that, sorry :(

I used to like it when it was based at Luton, cos I'm quite familiar with Luton airport. In the days when I had a TV it was one of the few things I watched.

I love Airport. I seem to be at Heathrow almost every two or three weeks, so it seems like home from home to me.

That wasn't Airport - it was called 'Airline' (ITV pinched the idea from the BBC I think). I have a friend who worked for easytJet at the time & had the opportunity to be filmed. I think her reaction was pretty similar to the 'poke eye out with a stick' response from venger.

Airport has always been based at Heathrow, never at Luton. Are you perhaps thinking of the more down-market show Airline?

That one featured the budget airline EasyJet and showed them operating out of Luton, Liverpool, Dublin and Edinburgh.

I must say, compared to the excellent Airport, Airline was a most unpleasant programme and as a promotional tool for EasyJet, it was a disaster.

Every week it showed either a bunch of football yobs making life unbearable for their fellow passengers, or a violent drunk who had to be removed from the plane before it could take off, or a passenger abusing the ground crew because he/she couldn't take double the allowed baggage on board etc

Since watching the first series I've avoided flying with EasyJet whenever possible

I found watching it when the Customs Officers were featured enjoyable. Some women tryed bringing back an assortment of African Snails and fish on sticks etc from abroad. When asked if she had any items of food she shouldn't she just shook her head.
After opening her bags it turned out she'd got half an African supermarket in her bag along with live snails :S

Yes, that's the one - Airline. I didn't actually realise it was a different program I just thought the later series had gone downhill.

I remember seeing one program once or twice, I forget whether it was Airport or Airline (I think the former), what I loved was the guy walking around, a yellow flourescent vest over his jacket with the words "Airport Chaplain" on it. I'd kill for one of those vests!

I have to say that i really enjoy watching Airline,I love it when people do not understand what the words 'Check in closed'.
Some people are so rude and arrogant beyond belief.
I also tend to watch some of the old one's on Sky Travel ,when they used Brittania Airways although they tend to show the same series on a loop.
I have seen Katrinas cancer op about ten times and i feel i know her personally ive seen it that many times.

Sad

I don't mind the Airport programme that much but I can't stand that Airline programme that featured EasyJet. I used to get annoyed about how EasyJet operated.

It's not my favorite show, I'm never sure when it's on, but when it is I usually enjoy the program, seeing them idiots run to the desk shouting at people and mising planes héhéhé.

My housemate has the book (from the Russian guy I can't remember the name of sorry) and that was a good read (actually I don't read, so that was 1995-2005's book !)
