I have been granted a priority award by the council for the s8 area which i deliberately chose as i wanted to be near Chesterfield and the rest of Derbyshire. However i wasn't aware at the time of the areas reputation so now i'm terrified.

Looking at the sheffield property website with the flats available week by week i'm pretty sure i'm going to end up getting offered a place in Batemoor on Batemoor Road. If i'm lucky i might get a place in Lowedges but the odds are against all the over places i've got priority for.

So i wanted to know, from people who live there now or have lived there in the past 12 months - what it's like?

Whats the probability of my car getting stolen or my flat getting broken into? If you keep yourself to yourself and don't bother anybody, will they still try and bother you or will they leave you alone? Is there a better end and a worse end? Just a few things i need to know.

I've got friends who live on Batemore and often trundle around the area een stopping off for a drink in the pub. There's no reason to be any more scared of the area and people than plenty of other places and as there aren't any shops there isn't a focal point for troublesome teens to congregate with the possible exception of the two underpasses at each end but this is rare.
There are garages across the estate and some are boarded up and one of my friends discovered that if you push the council a bit you may be able to get one.
Although I'm not a resident up there I have noticed that the estate housres a wide cross section of ages and plenty of them are nice and quite easy to chat with if you start nattering.

I used to live on bottom side of Batemoor I have friends and family there and visit often, the estate is not as nice as it was some 20yrs ago, times change, the estate does have it's problems but like all council estates the trouble comes and goes as the council re-house people into/out of the area, also as children grow up and out of acting like idiots.
The area is no different to most places and it is better than some, your car will be ok as long as there is nothing on show, people will break your car windows just for fun even in Dore/Totley. If you keep yourself to yourself you will be fine but if you make friends with your neighbors you will be better, and yes there are nice people on Batemoor.

Batemoor isnt as good as it used to be, infact far from it, lots of chavs etc. Lowedges has turned into one of the roughest parts of sheffield according to some people nowadays compared to the lovely place it used t be *-) better down woodseats or that way i think.
