We got a 3 year old cat last Sunday. He had been dumped on a ladys doorstep, she got intouch with cats protection and they had him castrated, fleaded and wormed. He is a stunning cat, very loving and fits into our home well.

However he has been on dry food since he has a kitten, and when this lady got him she started him with wet food - this gave his tummy a run for its money and he has had very bad poops. When he came to us we contined on wet food but as we thought this was the source of all our problems we did the 24 hour fasting thing with him and then started back on dry (whiskers) but he has retured to pooping, This time its all over. He likes a MEGA clean litter tray and, in the night when we cant clean it as soon as he poops he takes to doing it all over the house!

I really need to know if any one has anything that i can try to settle his stomach. Should i change the buscuits i give him? Or should i continue with them untill he gets used to them? We have no history from the person that dumped him, all we know he was on dry food and likes pringles!!!

I really do want to try everything before taking him to the vets, he has just been castrated and found it a scary experience.

HELP PLEASE

If his problem really is just because of the change of food then I would suggest white fish, take him off any type of food at all and just feed it either poached or even microwaved in a tiny bit of water (it literally takes 2 mins) feed him nothing but that till his poo's dry up, and then give him an extra couple of days on top to settle, then very very slowly begin to mix his biscuits back in with his fish over a period of days.

This is something I have used for puppies and kittens on lots of occasions and it has never failed me once, if it does then he is definitely going to need a vet and probably has a bug, let us know how it goes :)

another good one for a cat with bad diahroah is scrambled egg with a touch of cheese in for flavour.

Go for a quality dry food, don't keep changing brands, COSTCO own is very good and very cheap

We had this problem with out cat when he was a baby that turned out to be trichomonas (sp?). Its a parasite like giardia that caused chronic diarrhea. It was easily treatable. You could take a stool sample to your vet to rule this out.

All my cats are now on royal canin sensible.

If he has an infection the pooh will really smell bad.

Hi and well done on rehoming this unwanted cat. I would just be a bit wary of feeding dried whiskas as you only have to look at the colour of the biscuits to seei t is chock full of additives. None of my cats have ever been able to stomach it an if they did have it, it invariably came straight back up again. There are lots of really good dried complete foods out there, including James Wellbeloved and if you can get to the big pet susperstores, Jollyes and Pets at Home both sell their own branded complete foods that are nutritious, healthy and reasonably priced- I've just had a 2-3kg sack (can't quite remember the actual size) from jollyes which cost less than £4 and ought to last an adult cat around 3 weeks - the great thing about sticking to dried food is that provided you always make sure there is water available, it is far less messy than wet foods (most of which are full of sugar and water), cheaper overall, healthier and cleaner.

Any change of food is bound to affect a cat or dog's tummy for a day or two but once you find a good on e they and your wallet will like, it's best to stick with it- but me, I'd steer well clear of brekkies, whiskas or any of the other basic brands of highly coloured dried cat biscuits.

I'd take him off everything n start again...

Feed him white fish and rice for a day or 2 and then slowly re-introduce him onto which ever food you decide to go back to.

Boy cats are prone to getting bladder crystals if only on a dry food diet so make sure he has plenty of water available n if he not a water drinker then maybe feed him wet food with a lil dry down everynow n again to keep his teeth healthy.

This has always worked for mine ...good luck ;o)

on a good quality dried complete food, cats are much less likely to get bladder problems, provided they have water available- the older cheaper dried foods were always a problem and the ones full of additives, but good quality stuff (Royal Canin, Burns, James Wellbeloved etc), is fine

hi,im a cat and dog groomer and come across this type of problem all the time.defo use a good quality food dry or wet, with no colourings or addatives, look at what it says on the tin or bag most will say 4% animal derivatives, basically anything not fit for humans to eat.Try natural yogurt to rebalance the bacteria in the stomach cat or dog it works.Dont keep swapping to other foods it only makes the problem worse.I swear by (burns)biscuits loads of my customers now use this and won't use anthing else. This is my 1st time on here hope it helps.

White fish, chicken, if he were a dog I'd suggest powdered Arrowroot you get from chemist....Awwww poor puss, he must be so embarrassed , especially if he's usually immaculate.
