Starting from Thursday 9th October and running every Thursday night there will be a new Open Mic night at the Moorfoot Tavern, Cumberland St (behind Staples). :D

I'm still in the stages of putting this together and getting the word out to the musos of the city.

If anyone has any spare instruments lying around which could be used (semi acoustic guitar, guitar amp, anything really...) I'd be interested to know what you have!

Any hints or tips or advice on how to make the night work well will also be well received. :help:

I've managed to secure a guitar amp and the loan of a drum kit (thanks to practiceshef) so this open mic night is coming together nicely.

If you're my friend on MySpace you'll have an invitation to the event.

If anyone else wants to help out with this then please let me know!

I'm still trying to source a semi acoustic guitar!

I've done open-mic nights in the past.

I took three guitars (two electrics and a Takamine Acoustic/Electric) and a Yamaha keyboard. Unfortunately I only had one microphone [SM58] and was somewhat limited to channels on my PA. But it is rare to have more than one person performing at any one time until the last hour when everyone's well and truly plastered.

I enjoyed doing it. I'd perform for half an hour then someone would finally pluck up courage to have a go. Some brought their own guitars, others used mine. Having a keyboard with a piano sample helped too (Oasis' Don't Look Back In Anger sounded quite good!!).

I think it's great that you've got a drum kit because I play both guitar and drums - and I'm certainly not shy about getting up and 'doing my thang'.

Good luck on the night!
