If anyone is passing Hunters Bar round-about I strongly recomend Woody's Sandwich Bar if you fancy a very tasty sandwich. I thought it would be another poor quality Sheffield sandwich shop, but I couldn't be so wrong! Very cheap prices, but that doesn't mean the quality is cheap, the very opposite in fact. You can eat in (although not much seating) or take-out. I recomend the Canadian Steak with the mustard, cheese & onion.

I just thought I would add that if anyone wants a good snack stop.

If anyone is passing Hunters Bar I strongly recommend you avoid Woodys at all cost. Well, a little harsh maybe, but here's why;

1 - It's always packed
2 - It's overpriced (you'll know why when you see your sandwich)
3 - Everything....takes....such...a...long...time...
4 - Each breadcake comes complete with a whole bag of flour, fact.

The local butchers around the corner (take your pick there's 2 of them) and Perfectionary on Sharrowvale Road are much better in all departments.

Packed for a reason ,the sandwhiches are very nice. Its fairly priced ,i wouldnt slate the place it make a change that shops dont just do chicken bacon sausage salad cheese ect although they do but theres always summit a bit different about them.Although LA's up the road does VERY nice sarnies or seans next door do the best hot pork

Apple and brie is good, but it gets a little tiresome having to wait 20-30 minutes for a ****ing sandwich.

I visited for the first time the other morning whilst feeling the effects of a rough night out.

Got myself a special with everything for under £2. Ordered it by phone and picked it up about 20 minutes later. 10 out of 10 goes for everything.

You Hunter's Bar dwellers don't know you're born. There's nowt in the way of decent sandwich shops where I live (Abbeydale Road), but on Ecclesall Road and Sharrowvale Road you've got Woody's (brilliant), Spoilt for Choice (even better, with special sausage) etc. etc.

For roast pork or breakfast-type butties though, it's clearly all about Roney's on Sharrowvale Road.

Hey - All hail the bison - what about the amazing sandwiches at Bragazzi on Abbeydale Road ? Enthusiasm, inventiveness, lovely atmosphere and coffee to equal that of anywhere iv'e ever been, or should that be bean ? (sorry).

Bragazzi's is very nice but quite expensive and not really hangover friendly.

Roney's is great

Hail pete_jim. And consider the pun forgiven (barely).

Yeah, Braggazzi's is pretty cool, s'pose, but as Angrybal says, expensive.

What we need is a quality butty shop in the traditional Sheffield mould.

You really don't know how lucky you are - we've got the airport cafe or nothing decent (i.e. somone who knows that a baguette is not a torpedo shaped bread cake).

Airort cafe's ok but range not that fantastic, and a bit pricey compared with woody's

Woody's is spot on. The sandwiches are well worth the money (all day breakfast) and I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes. You can keep the butchers!

Bragazzi's definitely has the finest sandwiches - and salads - around. They're not really expensive when you look at the quality - you can pay similar prices for much inferior stuff. Pay a bit more and get a lot more!

Deserts and other deli stuff are a bit pricey though but they're always good. Coffee's great too.

Woodys is the dogs. Hummus, salad and chives is AMAZING.

You do have to wait for an age though, but that just makes you want it more

Woody's is fantastic. Best sandwich shop around and just down the road from house !! Excellent hangover cure.

But, I would agree with Agent Gypo, it takes forever to get served. Speed up the service !!!!

It must be said that Woody's is a great hangover cure on a Sunday morning. It's a minute around the corner from me. Lovely! :)

Get round the corner to Roney's on Sharrowvale!

We filmed a music video in there today. Some rather funny looks, but we got free large hot roast porks with everything on!

Cringeworthy. That's twice now. It's not great advertising; it's verging on tacky.

I'll try and do my bit for public service:

I don't have any links to sarny shops, but I live and work near Eccy Road, so in my objective opinon, I'll rate the following:

1) Woody's, Hunter's Bar:

8/10 for sarnies - lovely sarnies, but depends who's making 'em
6/10 for speedy service - again depends on who's serving, but at least you can sit and read papers if it's slow. However, it's always friendly;
8/10 for price - good value, big sarnie

Therefore 22/30 overall IMO

2) Spoilt for Choice, opposite Berkely precinct: That's exactly the problem - too much choice: stick to what you're good at, therefore:

6/10 for sarnies. Not keen on the small floury bread cakes (but that's just me!) They'd do better with Roses bread cakes
8/10 for Service - half of the staff seem like proper chefs at the back, but front of house sometimes not on the case
7/10 for Price, due to the amount of choice on offer. Prices will be cheaper if they limited what they have. Again, not a bad thing, so if you like choice, I'd recommend.

Therefore 21/30 overall IMO

3) 243 Sandwich Shop or whatever it's called near Nursey Tav - good fast service, therefore:

8/10 for service - lovely, friendly folk
8/10 for sarnies - no complaints, but sarnies sometimes fall to bits as they cram too much in - but that's not such a bad thing!
8/10 for price

Therefore 24/30 overall IMO

4) Seans Bakery at Banner Cross:

9/10 for Speedy service - it's either the same chap, who I assume is Sean or a no-nonsense lovely lady that makes a good fast sarnie - no messing
9/10 for Sarnies - just try the proper old fashioned, ham salad with salad cream - nowt fancy but great
10/10 for value

28/30 overall IMO

All the above are good. The above is just my opinion and it's great to see independent sandwich shops in Sheffield! If I rated the likes of Subway in my poll, it would get 2/30 - overall: utter rubbish! If you're skint, get down to Aldi and buy some bread cakes / ham / cheese whatever and make your own. I've been doing this of late and good lord, you can can save a fortune!

My old man is in the process of writing a book on quality sandwich shops in the North of England and I have tagged along with him on his journey around my own City of Manchester, liverpool,Leeds,Newcastle,York & Sheffield.
I have to say I totally agree with his assessment that WOODY`S at Hunter`s bar roundabout on Ecclesall road in Sheffield is by far the best.
Their choice from Crayfish & Rocket,Advacado, pecorino & sundried tomatoes& Sweet chilli chicken to the famous FULL MONTY with superb lincolnshire farm sausages & top quality bacon makes the place unmissable, and overall the combination of friendly staff, great background music, free newspapers and superb reasonably priced sandwiches make it a clear winner.
As a footnote,I was chatting to the Tennis pro at nearby Hallam Tennis Club who told us a lot of local sports people come out of there way to use Woody`s including a number of Wednesday & United players,Cricketer Michael Vaughan and a variety of well Known local musicians.......clearly they can`t all be wrong.:)

It's all about a large turkey club at Spoilt for Choice!!

Saying that though, a Mambo Italiano at Woody's is a fine second choice!
