Topic.

Just bought a £20 USB Bluetooth Dongle from the shop on Charter Row in Town, managed to set it up OK with the driver CD etc, no problem, now I'm trying to get it to connect to Nokia PC Suite to use it with my N95, and it won't authenticate the phone.

Anyone know what's wrong? I'm following all on screen prompts and typing in the passcode etc.

Have you tried to pair the N95 with the bluetooth dongle, tell the dongle program to search for the N95 and pair the computer & the phone before using the nokia PC suite.

Plug it in via USB

I did.

Or do you mean the phone? I tried that, a USB data cable came with the phone, it worked for about 6 weeks, and now doesn't work any more.

Which is why I bought the Bluetooth dongle.

That could be windows. Try the cable in a different USB socket, or try a different cable (it uses one of the standard mini-usb connectors, cables are less than £5).

I wouldn't bother persevering with bluetooth, especially on windows. It helps if you uninstall the windows BT stuff and install the Broadcomm BT stack instead, although its hard work to stop windows automatically installing its own BT drivers.

Seriously, the cable is about a zillion times faster and more reliable than bluetooth. I had to use BT with my 6600 in the end I never bothered and just popped the memory card out and into a card reader, it was an arse.

Get yourself a proper uninstall program (like this for e.g. My Uninstaller)

Uninstall everything Nokia program (incl. cable connectivity drivers) from your PC.

Re-install PC Suite using the DVD that came with the phone.

I'd suggest getting the latest version of PCsuite from the nokia web site.

Also you should just be able to connect the phone to the pc as a USB drive, without using or relying on any nokia software. Just make sure you select "Data Transfer" when the handset prompts you.

If it's not prompting you when you plug the USB cable in, then either the cable is at fault, or Windows thinks you usually have another device plugged in there, in which case, use a different USB socket.
