View Full Version : If you had one wish...
...What would you wish for? You choose anything, it needn't be something material, and can be as complex or as simple as you like. In fact, the only restriction is that wishing for extra wishes  is forbidden (Remember - no one likes a smart ar*e :P :D). So come on people... you can have anything in the world... what are you going to use your wish on?
(I shall have a think about this over the next hour and post something later, when I have woken up a bit else I'll wind up wasting my one wish on a grande hazelnut latte :P :D)
redrobbo 11-05-2005, 06:46 More time. I'm not wishing to grow ever older. Just more time to enjoy the pleasures of life, especially seeing extended family members. Not money or wealth, or a posh house, or a fast car or foreign holidays, or winning the pools or lottery. More time is what I'd wish for.
Apart from wishing my kids a happy life.
A wish for me is hindesight. Like my signature says Youth is Wasted on the Young. So to experience my youth but with the knowledge that comes with maturity! ;)
These (http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/sf/a/002363.html) are rather tempting... :P
Since I just have the one wish though, I think I'd like to have a really close female friend... As a young, bright eyed undergraduate I was always more of one for hanging around with the lads, but as I've grown up a bit I'd much rather have another girl to go shopping and gossip with :D Besides, if she was a really good friend, she'd buy me the shoes for my birthday ;) :P
At the moment however, my lab group consists entirely of men , so I shall have to pick out the most feminine looking one and stick him in a wig :suspect: :P :D

You got a friend here Tracie hunny bun. Get over this weekend and get yourself out with Msb!!
xx
Most first choice of wishes, and the most selfish, would be to die before any of my family dies.
metalman 11-05-2005, 07:13 Well, that's cheered me up no end.
my one wish would be to know my grandad, he died of cancer when i was 18 months old. in the good'ol days they used to just recored the family sitting around talking (for some reason!!) and i instantly recognised his voice, apparetnly he used to lay on the floor talking to me for hours as he did jot ahve the strength to hold me ,. so my one wish would be to know him.
bets that cheered ya up even more metalman!:| :|
I wish that every-one could find whatever it is that they think would make them happy, and be happy with it.....
To know everything about women! That would be more useful than anything i can think of!
MovingOn 11-05-2005, 07:39 I'd wish for happy lives for my children, fulfilling careers and spouses who will stand by them and support them.
I would like to meet a genuine life partner to spend quality time with , I dont think thats much to ask..:(
...any nice guys out there???
Birth-Peace 11-05-2005, 08:44 I wanted to know true true love, that was my wish.
And it came true the day I met Richard. Richard, my husband, is my wish come true; and I am so grateful for him every minute.
Simple- i would wish all my family and friends stay happy, satisfied and in good health for life.
beansfeast 11-05-2005, 09:35 I simply wish for an empty bag.... and whenever I buy something, all I have to do is put my hand in the bag and I will always pull out exactly the right amount for what I want.
Well someone's gotta do it!! :heyhey:
And just think how happy the bus drivers will always be!
This has got me thinking.........
A rare experience for me.
Perhaps, if everyone had the one wish, then to wish for a conferance so everyone else could put their wishes to good use for the benefit of us all.
I am such a dreamer though :(
I may yet capture my dream so will have to wait and see there.
So perhaps, boring and predictably six more zero's on the end of my current bank balance just to speed things up a bit
:)
LoopyLou 11-05-2005, 10:58 To have my dad back. I miss him.
My one wish - to have my brother back. It's been 20 years this year and I still miss him soooooo much and think about him every day.....
i wish............... i knew what to wish for
I wish for many things, they never arrive...
What you never had you'll never miss :suspect:
Always reminds me of the saying: happiness is wanting what you've got, not getting what you want!
missrabbit 11-05-2005, 11:41 I wish that i could know when & how i die ... then i would never fear anything and would live my life to the fullest and could smoke without feeling bad and then i could say a proper goodbye to my loved ones and it wouldn't be a shock for anyone.
ok...got one...
i wish chocolate was really really good for you, was healthy, made you slim and the more you eat the better shape you get in!
technophobe 11-05-2005, 12:05 Loopylou & Hels: you both brought a tear to my eyes - dont forget our most loved ones are always alive in our memories and in our heart. My dad with always be with me....
Whevever I catch a leaf or blow the pollen off a flower, I wish for the same thing - To be healthy and Happy.
I KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT ITS WORTH READING!
> Each year he sent her roses,
> and the note would always say,
> I love you even more this year,
> than last year on this day.
> My love for you will always grow,
> with every passing year."
> She knew this was the last time
> that the roses would appear.
> She thought, he ordered roses
> in advance before this day.
> Her loving husband did not know,
> that he would pass away.
> He always liked to do things early,
> way before the time.
> Then, if he got too busy,
> everything would work out fine.
She trimmed the stems and
> placed them in a very special vase.
> Then, sat the vase beside
> the portrait of his smiling face.
> She would sit for hours,
> In her husband's favourite chair.
> While staring at his picture,
> and the roses sitting there.
> A year went by, and it was
> to live without her mate.
> With loneliness and solitude,
> that had become her fate.
>> Then, the very hour,
> The doorbell rang, and there
> were roses sitting by her door.
She brought the roses in,
> and then just looked at them in shock.
> Then, went to get the telephone,
> to call the florist shop.
> The owner answered, and she asked him,
> if he would explain, Why would someone would
> do this to her, causing her such pain?
> "I know your husband passed away,
> more than a year ago,"
> The owner said,
> "I knew you'd call, and you would want to know.
> The flowers you received today,
> were paid for in advance.
> Your husband always planned ahead,
> he left nothing to chance.
> There is a standing order,
> that I have on file down here,
> And he has paid, well in advance,
> you'll get them every year.
There also is another thing,
> that I think you should know,
> He wrote a special little card...he did this years ago.
> Then, should ever I find out that he's no longer here, that's the card
> that should be sent to you the following year."
>
> She thanked him and hung up the phone, her tears now flowing hard. Her
> fingers shaking, as she slowly reached to get the card.
> Inside the card, she saw that he had written her a note. Then, as she
> stared in total silence, this is what he wrote...
> "Hello my love, I
I know it's been a year
> since I've been gone.
> I hope it hasn't been too hard for you to overcome.
> I know it must be lonely,
> and the pain is very real.
> Or if it was the other way,
> I know how I would feel.
> The love we shared made everything
> so beautiful in life.
> I loved you more than words can say,
> you were the perfect wife.
> You were my friend and lover,
> you fulfilled my every need.
> I know it's only been a year,
> but please try not to grieve.
> I want you to be happy,
> even when you shed your tears.
That is why the roses will be sent to you for years.
> When you get these roses,
> think of all the happiness that we had together,
> and how both of us were blessed.
> I have always loved you and
> I know I always will.
> But, my love, you must go on,
> you have some living still.
> Please...try to find happiness,
> while living out your days.
> I know it is not easy,
> but I hope you find some ways.
> The roses will come every year,
> and they will only stop,
> When your door's not answered,
> when the florist stops to knock.
> He will come five times that day,
> in case you have gone out.
> But after his last visit,
he will know without a doubt!
> To take the roses to the place,
> where I've instructed him
> and place the roses where we are,
> together once again.
> Sometimes in life, you find a special friend;
> Someone who changes your life
> just by being part of it.
> Someone who makes you laugh
> until you can't stop;
> Someone who makes you believe
> that there really is good in the world.
> Someone who convinces you
> that there really is an unlocked door
> just waiting for you to open it.
>
> This is Forever Friendship.
missrabbit 11-05-2005, 12:12 I just read your poem whilst sat at my desk and it is truly beautiful. I keep welling up just thinking of it.

Personal experience:
You have to believe you deserve what you desire/wish for.
Hold that belief .....
Don't ever lose that thought.
If It's truly what you want/need in your life it will stay with you.
It may take TIME (the hardest part)........
I could go on, but am at risk of rambling. Hope you don't mind the 'advice' Deejay :)
1Man&hisBMW 11-05-2005, 23:21 wish for another 5 wishes :)

Good wish
For me my wish would also be to go back in time and change circumstances leading up to the death of a number of close friends.
LoopyLou 12-05-2005, 07:49 Technophobe,
your poem is beautiful. I have re-read it a number of times since your posting and each time my eyes well up before I can get to the end.
I have printed it out for my Mum, who I know would love to read this.
Do you know who wrote it?
Loops.
jackthedog 12-05-2005, 08:37 I'm one of the young people who can see no way of getting onto the bottom rung of the property ladder in the forseeable future, as even tiny undesirable houses have ended up way out of my financial reach due to the recent outrageous property-boom.
So I wish to be able to bypass the whole "starting at the bottom and trading up" crap and own a nice small farm in the Hope Valley.

I think they probably do but being a typical Blerk don't show it as we would like!
drolnhoj 12-05-2005, 10:15 Well to be honest, all I would wish for now is a nice new job. After 28 years of continuous work, my company decided I either take redundancy or apply for a job that would mean me travelling down south every week. Ok in the summer maybe, but driving 400 miles there and back in the winter did not appeal. So I thanked them for the severance pay and decided to have a few months off doing the things that I wanted to do for a change. Now it is time to get back into the real world.
