If Keane and Berbatov had remained at Spurs, would Spurs be in the position they are now? I think we all know the answer to that, so why sell both your well paired, top strikers just before the start of a new season.
In fact they have spent what they got and the team is in worse shape plus in todays papers it is rumoured that Ramos is homesick and might leave.
Me thinks the reason is not being homesick, Titanic springs to mind and guess who was at the wheel when it hit the iceberg.

they got rid of Keane because they were offered good money for him. Still a mistake in my book but he probably wouldn't have been best pleased with being forced to stay. Also the remaining length of contract is a factor, I don't know how long he had left but if it was a year or so they really didn't have much of an option.

Berbatov, on the other hand, showed himself to be the mardy sod we all knew he was anyway and made it clear that he wouldn't play for the club any more, the fact the situation happened right on the transfer deadline left no time to find a replacement.

Selling Defoe looks pretty foolish now, Spurs have gone from having four quality strikers to having Darren Bent in half a season, whoops.
