Hiya my dog has had fleas for just over a week now and the treatments she's had dont seem to be working. She's had a bath in flea shampoo, a flea collar and i bought this flea spray from wilko but there seems to be as many if not more as when i first noticed them.

Does anyone know how long it tends to take them to go and can anyone reccomend any treatments?

We think she caught them off a hedgehog off our garden because she hasn't been in contact with any other animal.

Thanks

what you need is frontline from the vets, rather than over the counter wussy stuff

a good flea combing (have a bowl of water handy for drowning) helps too

you can also get electronic flea combs

and there's a huge great long thread on fleas somewhere on the group

Thanks i will do, i use a nitcomb and then put them straight in kettle hot water. I get all the fleas out its the eggs im struggling with coz theres that many but around 5 fleas. Do you know a rough price of the frontline? I dont really mind the cost i just want to get rid of them.

Thanks again

It sounds like the little buggers may have come off the dog and into the carpets so it wont matter how much you treat them,I had the same problem when i bought a dog of someone and got the frontline treatment from the vets who adviced me to get someone out to treat the carpets and it did do the trick but cost around 80quid,well worth it though.Good luck.

there doing it(frontline) at pharmacy chemist its about £25 for all different sizes of dogs i think that price is for large dogs

the frontline for a medium sized dog prob works out at about £7 per dose, but you have to buy them in multiples of 3 or six or something

treating the dog with this stuff is supposed to also treat their environment too

if you have a steam cleaner, or know somebody with one, give that a go before you go dousing the whole house in nasty chemicals

The price depends on the size of the dog, but for a collie size I would say it is about £20 for 3 pipettes they should last you at least 6 months, the spray is about £26 for a small bottle but it is really economical and should last one animal for at least 9 months or perhaps longer I would say, so put like that the amount is not so great, and no more fleas, oh you would also have to treat any other cats or dogs that you may have.
Depending on how great the infestation is you might have to treat the house too, but if it seems quite localised to the pet and your not being bitten then the frontline will do it.

No i've not been bitten and no one else in my house has. I seem to have the fleas themselves quite undercontroll ill get around 5 out a day but there's millions of eggs that im struggling with they dont pick up in the knit comb and there buggers to get out by hand. They seem to be mainly at the bottom of her back above her tail because theres no eggs no nothing around her neck and belly.

Frontline combo everytime! You get it from vet's and it's BRILL! My dog was terrible for catching them, so did house in Laminate instead of carpet, leather sofa's...nowt worked until I Fronlined her. Scratch no more! You put it on neck every eight weeks and it run's a lot cheaper in the longrun than cheapo woosy stuff you get from pet shops. Garlic in food works to keep them off too.
