Hi there,

Now, we're onto DIMM sticks, SIMM sticks are very ancient and rare to come across; now, I've managed to stumble over a computer that a friend wants upgrading...

Now with the new DIMM sticks, one had to be mindful of SD-RAM (pre 2000ish), and DD-RAM (2000ish to date), and ensure that the correct one was bought.

With SIMM sticks, do I need to be aware of SD/DD?

Cheers,
Alex :)

I don't think so. In my experience, if they fit, they generally just work (a few exceptions with some branded kit). Make sure that the BIOS will accept the sticks you're putting in (remembering that they usually have to be matched pairs) - some motherboards will only recognise up to certain sizes of SIMM and may demand them in a certain config e.g. slots 1 & 2 8Mb, slots 3 & 4 16Mb and not the other way round. May be worth looking for a motherboard manual on the net and/or a BIOS update.
