Hi All, I recall reading that a Polish restaurant has opened recently, I think London Road-ish area. Has anyone been? Would you recommend it? Do you know if you need to book / can take your own wine etc? Do they take Zloty? (Just joking!)

there is that new turk rest just up from bed, where he does a BBQ inside - very cheap very nice, good for veggis too
It's on Abbeydale Road and, when I walk past it, there is a sign saying that you can indeed bring your own wine.
As for the food, a friend of a friend went with someone who actually is Polish, and it is apparently very authentic. But they serve things like beetroot soup!!
Also, there are about 16 courses by all accounts, so it would probably make a good prelude to say, a survival expedition to the Alps.
Would make a change though!
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to give it a try - will let you know the verdict.
i no theres a review of the restaurant in the eating out section in the star tonight
hope that helps
Has anyone been here yet to give us all a review?
My mate went...said the food was great, good prices, and they were allowed to stay there for a good few hours and drink the wine they'd taken after they'd finished eating with no hassle to hurry up and get out.
Enjoy.
What is the name of the restaurant?

It's called Polonium. 127-129 Abbeydale Rd. Not been yet but plan to!
Cheers Sandra!
Might give it a go myself!

The Persian is called Shiraz and is a lot further up Abbeydale Rd - near the Woodseats Rd Junction.
It is great, run by lovely people with good, cheap food. They even have a sitting area with hookah pipes.
Highly recommended
Well, we did go and I can give you that update now.
I've got mixed feelings about this place. I don't want to do it a disservice, as it has some good points, but it didn't really live up to expectations.
On the good side, it tries really hard. It's a family-run place, we got a warm welcome, the service was good, the prices are very reasonable. There's a good selection of Polish beer as well.
The food was a little disappointing though - nothing really bad, but I think the modern British diner has higher expectations these days. It all seemed a bit 1970's somehow - bits of lettuce garnish everywhere, which I didn't expect with a stew! I'd be really interested in hearing from other diners to see what they think, especially if anyone has other Polish dining experiences to compare against.
The deco is pretty dated too, which you wouldn't expect from a newly refurbished place.
All in all, I think probably not to my taste, although I wouldn't put others off trying it for themselves.
