Hi there,
Anyone got any good ideas what to do with Halloumi other than stick it on a kebab? I've got a packet of it and wanted to do something with it. Normaly I'd have roasted veg and halloumi ciabatta or something. But any meal ideas to do with it I'd be grateful for....

Slice, coat in flour, egg and breadcrumbs (in that order) and lightly fry, yummy! (Not too healthy mind you.)

Or cube it and make cheesy-curry (pretend it's chicken). It's an aquired taste, but not altogether grim.

Char-grill or bake it, and have it with roasted med veg (Peppers, aubergine, courgette, garlic, onion, maybe some shrooms) with cous-cous, that's always really good and pretty easy.
This is a Nigella recipe; she has it as a party/buffet dish. I have it as a drunken snack for two....
make a chilli oil of crushed red chillis (or a teaspoon of lazy chilli) and EV olive oil. Slice the halloumi into half inch thick slices, dry fry on both sides until brown and almost burnt in places. Throw into a bowl and toss in the oil. Eat, observing the weird but lovely squeakiness of the cheese, whilst paying no regard to whatever evil cholestorol thing it may be doing.
I know this sounds like a silly and unsophisticated snack. It is both of those things, however, its also very, inexplicbly, delicious

I have a fab recipe! It's my favourite meal at the moment...
Start tagliatelle boiling then fry garlic, sliced mushrooms, cherry tomatoes & parma ham... add lots of crushed chilli seeds (1tsp per person) and loads of fresh spinach (half bag per person). Let the spinach wilt then add a dash of half fat cream (one elmea tub would be 4 portions)
In a separate pan fry off enough halloumi cubes for a generous topping on each portion.
Its yummy! :D
Can I be really dumb and ask what halloumi is?

Can I be really dumb and ask what halloumi is?Its a cheese thats a bit like buffalo mozzarella but harder and more salty. It's good for vegetarians because it doesn't contain rennet (which some cheeses do). If you grill it, it goes brown without melting all over the place - so it's great on skewers as vegetable kebabs etc ;)
