Hiya, the Ecclesall Working Mens Club just further down from Tesco has been completely demolished now, to make way for some new commercial units.
Just wondered what the history of the building was like, if anyone here used to frequent etc, and peoples views on its redevelopment - the only information on it I've sen is the single sign outside saying its being redeveloped into A3 use (i think).
When Ecclessal became "middle class" there was no need for the building so it was demolished.

it put on some good jazz shows
Pedantry alert: 'Non-Political' rather than 'Working Mens'. Not really in Ecclesall either despite the name, but that's another (rather dull) story.

And it's been covered extensively before. :hihi:
I lived round Hunter's Bar from the year dot and I remember the Ecclesall Non-Pots club when it was built of , what I guess , was a sort of corrugated iron. As teenagers , we never drank in there ; we were always down town and unfortunately , I've no idea when it became a brick building [1960's ?]. Also , I can't remember what was on the original site. Doesn't say much for my powers of observation but my excuse is that it never held much interest for me in years gone by------always seemed a bit of a miserable venue to me .
