Happened to catch the start of Calendar news last night. Now, I had heard a rumour that one of the major banks & employers in the Yorkshire region had been taken over having nearly gone bust, and that thousands of employees were now in fear of losing their jobs. Was this the leading story? No. Apparently a boy had been bitten by a dog. Devastating for his family, I accept, but hardly a high impact topic. Was it the 2nd or 3rd story then? Absolutely not. I cannot honestly remember what was reported instead - my brain had turned to jelly by then.At this point I turned off in disgust. Whether the HBOS story actually earned a mention at any point in the 30 minute show, I cannot say.

What is the point of a local news programme that seems to feature exclusively on small 'human interest' snippets and completely ignore something of potentially devastating importance to thousands and their families? I'm not holding up Look L**ds as the paragon of outstanding journalism, but at least they do usually cover the main news stories. Thank goodness my license fee doesn't fund this tosh!

I've been reading Richard Whiteley's autobiography and it makes me pine for the Calendar of old.

Look North? Look Leeds more like!

Any story that isn't based in Leeds, gets 30 seconds coverage, if that on Look Leeds, whereas if it's about someone in Leeds, they dedicate the whole show to it! And they reckon they aren't biased? :loopy:

Contrary to the apparent opinions of the Look Leeds producers, Leeds is NOT the be all and end all of Yorkshire and the North of England in general.

Both Calendar and Look Leeds are pieces of junk whose sole purpose is to fill in half an hour of the airtime schedule. Both are dull, hugely uninformative and centred around non-stories fronted by up-their-own-posterior presenters.

Do we really give a toss at the colour of Paul The Weatherman's tie? Are we arsed that Le*ds United players are going to raise money for some charity by way of a sponsored haircut?

We are supposed to be England's biggest county - yet in all those miles, these two shows cannot seem to find one decent, relevant item of news....

...other than the weather, which they usually manage to get wrong anyway.

well said "ousetunes" my thoughts exactly. if they can find anything to fill the time
without having to find any news they love it. e.g. royal visit however minor,
art exib. animal story, etc. all rubbish.

Sad to say, if you watch some of the other regional news programmes that are on at the same time, Look North and Calendar are far from being the worst...
