This might be the same everywhere as John Lewis have a policy of not accepting car seats in case they have been used at all. We had this problem when my lo was born and we just assumed it would fit in our extremely popular car but it didn't.

I can see why they have the policy but if you haven't even undone it it seems a bit mad. We had undone ours to try in the car. My Mum did keep arguing for me (as I too was about to pop as we didn't try in car until I was 2 days overdue, just assuming it would fit!) and they did eventually take it back so might be worth another go.

My advice is keep pushing and trying and eventually they should swap it especially if the wrapping etc is still on.
