If they're your files, it shouldn't be a problem. What cd writing software do you have?

Agreed. 6.6.0.8 is a top piece of kit (though the OEM versions that come bundled with some CDR/Ws is severely limited).

Other good/decent burning tools are:

DeepBurner
Ashampoo Recording Studio
Alcohol120%

I've just had Nero 6.6.0.12 ultra given to me. I've never used it but it seems to do everything :o

If anyone has any tips as to what to backup and when, i'd be most happy

Also.....Is it worth making an entire 'clone' of my HD?

PS. I'm only asking because my last backup (not using Nero) failed to work and i lost all the programs on the disk :(

If it's not an NTFS partition, then yes. However, if it is on anNTFS partition then no as when the image is transfered back Win XP will not boot (another reason for me to not to use HexPee). I'll have a look around though for a method when I get the time a little later, as I have a sneaky suspicion that this will be problematic using any windows based SW.

You could try a clone using a "Live" version of Linux??

Don't know what to back-up with Nero I'm afraid as everything I back-up goes onto a seperate HD on various partitions, so I've never had need to use this feature.

If you use Norton Ghost you can take an exact image of your hard drive. If then at any point your system becomes corrupted you can boot from floppy and using the image you created restore your computer to it's previous state perfectly.

Yes, an old LG CDRW drive had a "tied" version of Nero 5, and wouldn't work with my Toshiba drive that I bought afterwards.

Try Roxio Easy Media Creator.

Fortuantely, for me, I have C:\ OS/Apps, D:\Music and E:\ Work and Pictures D and E are slaves, so, fortunately, if C packs up, I only have to worry about dusting all of my CDs off for my SW to pop back on again.

It works for my mp3's, why make things hard, but yes nero is a very good burner, but for a novice start the easy way and work up

all i back up is.................all my files i download/rip etc i keep on cd as well as the few i have on the puter.

I have a docs folder on another drive with a shortcut on my desktop and keep all my bits and bobs in there, i back that up to a cdrw disc along with my firefox bookmarks, ie faves, the odd text file i have litterering my desktop (urls to checkout etc) and my own websites i have in a folder on my desktop. then when ive updated em a few days later, i wipe the disc and burn it all again. if the worst happened i can just reformat and copy those items back where they belong.

I don't use REMC for copying - I find it clicks all through the recording - I use the Sound Editor though.

the reason I asked to IM me is because I keep getting the message thrown off.

Ok, i have this AVI file I want to convert onto dvd, but for some reason it won't.
I've had someone try helping me and he's been a great help, but even though I did everything he said, it still didn't work.

So, it got me thinking it may be something to do with something else... in other words has anyone else had problems converting avi files with winavi?

Yes, but use Norton Ghost. It also lets you burn onto DVDs.

I use Canopus Procoder, probably the best program for converting files.

However, it is very expensive. I'm not sure if they do a free 15 day trial.
