Hey all!

I have a five month old daughter who lovedto move about during her sleep!

For the last six weeks she has started to roll herself over to sleep on her stomach which we have let her do now as she cries when we move her back on to her back.

However, in the last week she has started to move 180 degrees in her sleep! Which means her feet end up where her head was when we put her down to sleep!

I'm worried about her getting entangled in the sheets! We've tried sleeping bags and she simply doesn't like them and cries and cries as we feel she feels restricted.

Any advice on how to stop her moving to such an angle during her sleep?

Merci! :)

Hey Merci.

I read somewhere once that when they start rolling onto their tummy during the night its safe for them to sleep like that as they have the mobility to move back onto their backs themselves if need be.:)

As for turning 180 degrees my first thought would be the grobags but you've already tried those, id say stick her in a thick fleecy sleepsuit with no sheets, if its cold you could always invest in a microwavable teddy??

Yeah a fleecy sleepsuit or if its particulary cold a light weight snowsuit. I always used them for camping to keep em snug.

Hi Merci, my daughter is nearly 5 months and has been doing the exact same thing, she didn't get on with gro bags either. The way I see it is if she can get onto her tummy then she is ok to sleep like that but to be honest I turn her back over as she sleeps like a log so I'm not really disturbing her.
As for the sheet sitation, I just make sure that the sheets are nice and snugly tucked under the mattress and am confident that her wriggling will not loosen them and they sholdn'y end up on her face. It is getting colder at night now and I was concerned that she might get cold in the night when she turns herself but I am confident that she will wake up if she's too cold and let me know. I wouldn't worry about it too much hun as babies are made of quite tuff stuff :)

i worried about this too until I got blankets with the holes in. Can't remember what they are called but they have satin ribbon round the edges and square holes all over so if it goes over their face they can still breath fine.

Ah found them on the mothercare website same as these (http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000JI91VW/sr=1-5/qid=1221754981/ref=sr_1_5/203-7421822-6657512?ie=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44397031&mcb=core) Made me feel better. Failing that try what the others have suggested.

as for the turning thing, don't worry to much, Scarlett only goes 90 degrees and I was worried she'd break her ankle or something from getting it stuck out of the cot but she's not hurt herself yet (she's 6m just) and I really think they, like us, sleep in a way thats most comfy for them.

My little boy used to do this all the time but it wasn't a problem for us as he went and still does go in a sleeping bag. But I remember talking to someone about this who's baby didn't like sleeping bags. Her daughter started to get cold in the night when she was no longer under her blankets after doing a 180. She used one of those cot dividers called safababy sleepers http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000K9K7F4/ref=sr_11_1/203-9694977-1424739?ie=UTF8&mcb=core (link here if it works) which meant that her little girl couldn't turn round and was more securely under her sheets. It worked for her so might be worth considering. Otherwise you could just persist with the sleeping bag and see if she takes to it. I know the safababy says suitable until 7 months but she was still using her and her daughter was about 9 months.

Hey Shanazzzz,
The bug does this too, she 'walks' round the edge of the cot with her feet to find the two bars that are not covered and then sticks her legs through. So far we haven't had a problem with the blankets covering her as she always kicks them off first to get good mobility. I'm not sure there is much you can do. The bug still sleeps in a cot next to my side of the bed and I wake up while she is having a sleepy wander so its easier to rectify.

If you do find a solution I'd love to hear it. Good luck

Oh have you tried swaddling, she might be abit too old. The bug used to be swaddled but she loves sucking on her hands too much so she now has a blanket, but swaddling would certainly stop your lo wandering :)

Hey all!

Thank you for your replies! My LO has cellular blankets.... although they have holes in them i'mnot sure they would stop a baby suffocating!

Olliekitten - my LO is also by the side of my bed so at the moment I hear her moving about so get up and move the blankets - Just worried that we may not always hear in her in our sleep!

Re swaddling - She does like that either - My LO loves to besucking on her little hands and moving her arms about too much!

I'm sure she'llbe fine just can't helpworrying!

Hi there, Rachel has been moving like this for a while now and I don't think there is an inch of cot that she does not cover in a night, she usually ends up doing 360 turns and being at the opposite end to where she started. She also rolls onto her side and tummy.

She does however sleep in a grobag and loves it. I think the suggestion of a fleecy sleepsuit is a good solution. We also have a baby monitor with a sensor mat though. This monitors her movement and breathing and if no movement is detected for 20 seconds it sounds a loud alarm. We bought it from ebay and I have to say that it has been one of our best buys.
