When was last time you had Chicken or scampi in a basket in Sheffield, where was it and was it a special occasion.

Surely nobody still does it......or do they? If not, what happened to all the baskets?

Last time I saw anything like that it was the Saturday night disco in the Rock at Crane Moor (back of Thurgoland) in about 1976!

The last time I had chicken in a basket was ten years ago watching a Tina Turner tribute act at the Aquarius in Chesterfield. What a night that was. :rolleyes:

In the 60s, friends reserved a table at an out of town venue, near Nottingham, and pre-ordered chicken in a basket for the four of us (it was a trendy meal in those days). They were dead keen to see a favourite jazz band playing there that Sunday night.

We didn't need to have reserved a table as it happened,
as the place was all but dead - probably because the jazz band were well past their prime. In the middle of the evening, our chicken in a basket was served. We were the only punters eating. The singer made some pertinent comment about how the band were starving, and how they couldn't afford to buy a meal on what they were being paid for this gig, and they watched with envy whilst we quickly consumed our meal before they played their next number. At that point, we found the exit and cleared off home.

I've never eaten chicken (or scampi) in a basket since. :gag:

Don't they still do stuff in baskets at the bowling place in centertainment?

I had scampi in a basket at the dog track in Hillsborough once, it was quite nice, it came with a little wedge of lemon which squirted in my sisters eye and nearly blinded her, how we laughed.

At a Three Degrees concert at the night club next door to where Top rank used to be.

I won't be able to sleep until I think of the name of the place ....HELP.

It was either 1975 or 76.
