Suzy Vintage 16-09-2008, 02:04 PM The Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair is Sheffield's longest running fair. With over 35 stalls of vintage, eco, hand-made and new designer clothing. Don’t forget we will be holding a vintage clothes swap at 12:00pm on the day of our vintage fashion fair. If you want to take part then you will need to pre-book a fair ticket from www.vintagefair.co.uk. Ticket prices are £2.00 and this includes entry into the affordable vintage fashion fair.
The clothes swap is brought to you by www.whatsmineisyours.com a free clothes swapping website that allows you to trade vintage and designer clothing with fellow fashionistas.
Swapping is a fantastic new way to update your wardrobe without spending money.
How does it work?
Bring 2 – 5 items of good quality clean clothing, and hand it to the swap assistants.
They’ll hang your clothes on rails, and display your shoes, boots and accessories.
Then kick back and chat to fellow swappers, shop from one of the 35 stalls at the vintage fair and watch as the rails fill with clothes.
All items left will be donated to Marie Curie cancer care.
We have successfully raised money for charities around Sheffield at our previous vintage fair and clothes swapping events at Millennium Gallery.
Here's a sneaky peek at a few of the amazing stalls for our vintage fair on the 4th October at Sheffield Hallam Hubs:

smellor 18-09-2008, 09:43 PM This is an amazing fair and just want to encourage everyone to come to the original and the best! No cheap immitations here! All the stalls are hand picked and the fair has built up an ecclectic mix eras. My personal favourites are Glass Onion and Victorias, I never fail to get anything from there!
All the stalls are jam packed and have the MOST amazing stuff, get there early as its all unique and one of a kind.
thea22 18-09-2008, 11:46 PM is this fair run by sheffield people?
smellor 19-09-2008, 12:12 AM I think the lady that runs it is from Leeds, Glass Onion is a good Barnsley bloke and I think the rest of the stall holders come from all over! I think this is really what makes this fair special as it definately has the best mix of vintage from all over the country. The fact that sellers come from all over the country to sell here in good old south yorkshire is a testament to our good taste i think!! Its good to know someone has taken the time to collect a merry band of vintage sellers who are really pasionate about what they do and only have the best quality. Affordable doesn't always have to mean cheap. Also being from Barnsley, I find Sheffield to be one of the most welcoming and multicultural places I ever visit and much better for it!!
A local fair for local people surely limits both what is being sold and who buys it!
Suzy Vintage 19-09-2008, 10:24 AM is this fair run by sheffield people?
The Affordable vintage fashion fair came to Sheffield back in 2007. It features stalls run by local sellers and sellers from around the country. Local designers, collectors and vintage sellers and shop owners fill half the fair, but to allow for diversity the rest of the stall holders are from around the country but mostly from the Yorkshire region.
The AVFF has now built up a large following in Sheffield with an average of 800 people attending the fairs, which peaked at our July fair when 1,500 people turned up to shop with us and support Millennium gallery and visit the Vivienne Westwood exhibition.
The fair has promoted and supported small businesses since it began in 2005, it also champions eco and hand made fashion and homewares, making it the largest fair to visit if you are looking for unique and individual purchases.
The fair moved to Sheffield Millennium Gallery in July 08 helping to raise much needed cash for the Gallery and also running 'Sheffield's largest clothes swap' which donated 3 large crates of clothing to 3 Sheffield charities including The Samaritans.
It now holds fairs 6 times a year in Sheffield at Hallam Hubs and Millennium Gallery. Other cities for The AVFF include Leeds, Liverpool, Nottingham and Newcastle.
So, join us on the 4th October at Hallam Hubs and check out the 35 stalls packed with affordable vintage, local designers and eco fashion.
p.s: our vintage clothes swap will begin at 12pm, to ensure you can take part in the swap you will need to pre-book your ticket at www.vintagefair.co.uk.
:D
Suzy Vintage 19-09-2008, 02:02 PM Just to let you all know:
The Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair has now picked out it's charity to support for the next year of vintage fairs. We are proud to support Marie Curie Cancer Care at all our events.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago and thankfully survived this horrible illness, which is why we chose to support this charity. The charity is best known for its network of Marie Curie Nurses working in the community to provide end-of-life care for patients in their own homes.
Marie Curie shops are still in need of clothing donations to allow them to fund their charitable work. So, we would like to ask all our customers to bring any clothing donations they may have to our vintage fairs and clothes swap events. The clothing will be donated direct to your local Marie Curie shop.
Our previous charities have included: Shelter, TRAID and The Samaritans.
For more information on Marie Curie please visit their website:
http://www.mariecurie.org.uk

komal 27-09-2008, 12:00 AM I heard this was in town centre tomorrow?
Suzy Vintage 28-09-2008, 11:26 AM The Affordable Vintage Fashion fair is on 4th October at Hallam Hubs on Paternoster Row.
We are not associated with the vintage fair at DQ in any way. Our stalls are true affordable vintage dating from 1940s - 1980s, the venue is light and spacious and there are card facilities and changing rooms on site.
The Affordable Vintage Fashion fairs has been running for 3 years and is now in it's second year in Sheffield.
The next fair is Saturday 4th October and doors open at 11am. We now have 40 stalls booked in for this event, with large menswear stalls, womenswear and a small selection of independent designers and hand made jewellery.
Stalls are spaced out so you have lots of room to browse and shop.
Our previous fair is featured in Exposed magazine, here's what they had to say about it:
"Those of us who live north of the Watford Gap believed this was an urban myth up until ex Selfridges stylist Judy Berger decided to showcase on-trend ex-trends salavatingly within our financial means. On July 30th, Berger and a team of carefully chosen stall holders pitched up at the Millennium Galleries (piggy-backing the Vivienne Westwood exhibit) and flogged everything from make your own jewellery booths to 1960s Mary Janes to brand new designs from exciting talents like Kelly Ewing. The result? A queue that snaked 3 rolls deep, designers calling in extra stock, and girls and boys looking all Agyness Dean and Jonny Borell leaving with entire outfits for less than £20.00."
The fairs take place at The Hubs, Hallam student union (opposite the train station) and Millennium Galleries, Sheffield.
pink fairy 29-09-2008, 11:34 AM Hi
New to this i have next and various high street cloths and some desinger will that be ok ? Also what the amount your able to bring to swap thank u
Suzy Vintage 30-09-2008, 02:40 PM We will accept non vintage items to the swap. Don't worry we have organised lots of swaps and this is our second clothes swap in Sheffield. You need to turn up at 11am and let the door staff know you want to take part in the clothes swap. It may be best to pre-book your ticket as the swaps usually fill up quickly.
You will then hand your clothes (between 2 and five items of clothing / accessories) into the swap team and they will hang and display what you have brought. You can then shop at the vintage fair or pop downstairs for a bite to eat or drink. At 12pm the swap will open and you will be able to pick out the clothing you would like to go home with.
The clothes swap is organised by www.whatsmineisyours.com - the first UK based swap site, set up in 2004, that allows you to swap your clothes for free with over 18,000 members.
Remember the rules of the swap:
Clean wearable clothes only please!
You must bring 2 – 5 items of clothing with you.
No elbowing, pushing or biting!
Swap begins at 12:00pm sharp
All items left will be donated to Marie Curie cancer care shops
icehockeyjoe 03-10-2008, 11:32 PM Just a reminder that the Vintage Fashion Fair is on tomorrow at the HUBS (hallam uni union) between 11-4. :)
SarahPr 05-10-2008, 03:06 AM I came today to the market n did enjoy it while i was at it but i didnt know where it was and the people were not very friendly there when i spoke to them so i didn't buy anything at it, only there for 10 mins really, could you get more 1960s stuff, i wanted a mod style dress to wear tonight, had to find one in town instead, there was some ok stuff though but more 60s would be good if possible
smellor 05-10-2008, 08:44 PM Wow I am a bit shocked you didn't find friendly people! thanks to this fairs friendle people I have ended up havinf my own stall! I also ate a lot of cake, bought a lot of jewellery and did a lot of chatting!!
However it was very busy so perhaps you got someone when they were in the middle of something. If you are after something specific I would highly recommend having a chat to one of the stall holders. In particular I would recommend John at Glass Onion, he has sourced loads of things for me previously, and Victoria vintage who has found me some fantastic outfits!! In fact I went to the Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair at Leeds today and bought the most amazing original 1950s dress with a really cute collar and sailboats all along the hem! I love it!! Victoria also had some original designer 1960s suits yesterday but I know she sold a few.
The thing that particularly caught my eye yesterday was the amount of menswear! (I don't know why, i can't wear it!) but it was good to see all my male friends come away as happy as the females!
I was very inpressed with the board game jewellery and bought two christmas presents from various stalls.
Can't wait for the next one on the 6th December and especially can't wait for the Christmas special weekend at the Millenium weekend!! That will be awesome!
Suzy Vintage 06-10-2008, 09:37 AM Hhhm, looks like Sarahpr missed all the 60s dresses, we had an entire stall devoted to them! We also saw all our returning customers leave with bags full of vintage items. Sometimes you need to take more than 10 minutes to look around a large vintage fair with nearly 40 stalls..
Suzy Vintage 06-10-2008, 09:38 AM A massive thank you to everyone who came to our vintage fairs over the last week…. We had such fun that we're doing it all again in December…. But don’t forget we still have a Liverpool fair in October and we’re stopping in at Newcastle in November….
